Hmmmm, I'm keen to know exactly what it is. Its a pretty decent mockup if it is one. On the other hand, I hope no-one's converted one.

Left hand drive only

\"I think there are 22 of this model in Australia,\" says Paul, something of an amazement in itself since the car was never produced in right-hand-drive form.

\"The factory only ever made them in left-hand-drive, and they only made 17,000 for global consumption. About 5000 went to the United States and the rest to Europe, South Africa and Japan.

\"This one came from Japan and it's special because it's from the first three months of production. They (BMW) started building M3s in September 1986 and this one was built in November of that year.

\"Because it was sold new in Japan, it's actually a Euro-spec version (as opposed to a US-spec model), which I like because it's got the dogleg gearbox (where reverse is where first gear normally sits).\"

The conversion to right-hand-drive was done after the car arrived in Australia but before Paul bought it. \"

Don't think for a moment I was questioning you Casey, just merely reflecting on the availablity of RHD converted versions. I have a huge soft spot for them too. The M3s are still grand, but there's something special about one created purely for homologation.

Would you believe, there is/was a red one in RHD that regularly parked in the UC carpark. And I though it was hard to pull into the uni of a morning!

No I didn't think that you thought that I thought.....

Will have to have a looksie for one of these M3's - I had no idea there were so many in Aust. Would have to be white though with a M stripe kit

So, when are you coming on another run Mal? Go karts will be on again next month (if I get myself organised.) We'll be missing the next couple of events though...

ASAP, which is likely to be a while off considering I work every Fri, Sat and Sun, with other people's weddings etc eating up my little annual leave. Trust me the yearning is there. Next time a Wakefield day is on a weekday and during uni holidays you can count me in for sure!
