Suspension Q's: K-Mac / Koni / Tein

Postby DanielB » Wed May 10, 2006 11:55 am

Hey guys.

Just about to sort out suspension for my NA6 MX5. The car will be taken to the odd track day at wakefield, a few skid pan events and some motorkhana.

Just looking at peoples personal opinions on these above brands. I work in Rockdale, about 2 minutes away from K-MAC which is why i have been considering them. They offer adjustable dampers + custom springs to suit my application, and they have quoted a similar price to the Koni/king spring combo that MX5 Mania offer.

Also, the Tein SS coilovers seem to be a decent package, curious as to whether they are worth the extra $$ or not over the other packages.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Daniel

KMAC *shudder*

They are great for building you something using your own specs. I'm not sure I'd be real keen to use something they've developed themselves though. I was the developer for one of their Integra kits so it was only tested on the road and made to suit what I wanted which wasn't necesarrily the best set up for the track or best for the car at the limit.

If you know your required spring length/gauge/pitch/rate etc they will make you an excellent high quality spring though. They're great for sway bars too.

Hi Daniel,

The Koni/Eibach combo i recently put on my NA6 works pretty well. The springs are on the top shock perch and the car is quite low now with little body roll but quite a good ride considering...

I've recently modded my rear bumpstops and fitted a spacer at the back to raise the rear a bit and give a little more suspension travel. Seems to have worked although the back is still pretty low.

Cheers
Rob
