I saw some guide online where they bough an extention for the cig lighter and wired it in parrallel to the back.

they then ran the extention to the centre compartment where they could plug in the phone/(PDA in your case) charger. That way it was tucked away all nicely in the centre compartment.

bit of googling will reveal it

do you just need a new socket? maybe just go down to Mazda (part cant be too expensive) and replace it.
Should be as simple as srewing(something like that) out the old one, pulling off wires and doing the reverse for the new one.

ill have a look tomorrow then type up something if there is nothing up.
