Need a new radiator cap

Postby Astroboysoup » Tue Jun 06, 2006 10:13 am

Hey guys

I need a new radiator cap. Mine is rusting a little bit and making the coolant a little rusty. Can't be good.

so how much should I be paying for a radiator cap. I was looking on ebay and a nice looking one is about $40.

Is that too much?

Suggestions?

You will probably find it is the coolant that is making the cap rusty, not the other way around. How long since the coolant was replaced. Might be an idea to do it now. The longer you leave it the greater the chance you will need to spend big money to replace coolant pipes due to corrosion.

As already suggested Supercheap is a good place for a new cap. Should be under $15. Just make sure it has the same temp as the OEM cap (93c I think).

Hey Juffa . . . I thought the caps rating was the 0.9 pressure thingy . . . 93degree temp is for the thermostat isn't it?

i changed the coolant about 10k ago...

noticed that it was a little rusty.

after awhile i noticed that the radiator cap was rusting and i wasn't too worried cos i thought it was the radiator. just a little bit of rust sitting at the top of the coolant and in the over fill bottle.

but yes.. time to change the cap and coolant.

I paid $11 from a radiator shop, and the guy fitted it (not cause I couldn't but because he got there first).

$40????? For a radiator cap???!!! Even with the petrol for the drive to the workshop you'd still have change from $15

cool thanks

I'll do a flush and change my thermostate on the weekend. It's stuck ope atm and I don't get much heat in the cabin. I'm cold.

hopefully my rust problems clear up after the flush too.
