Has anyone found that (NA) mx-5's SOUND like they are revving off their tits, then you look down, and you have another 2000rpm to go? I love it!

its most likely the way you drive it. Lack of oil is not a good start either.
when you start it. drive it very gently. Drive smoothly as well. When the temp guage gets to 25% give it a little stick......maybe to 5000rpm. then again....a little higher ease it into high RPM . by the 2nd or 3rd go it will be normal running temp.
do this in 2nd or third gear......just start it rolling in 1st go to 3k rpm maybe.
its quite possible you are on & off the gas rapidly.....not good. Also check your oil grade.
couls also have something to do with your RX7 AFM not being 100 % tuned.
but give your driving style a check.
sounds like yours is doing unnecccary labour.
trick is smooth but firm. Bit like you treat you woman.
mine loves to rev. but when I'm impatient with foreplay.......

Great post STM - I didn't know it was a good idea to spank 5000rpm at only 25% temp

I didn't know it was a good idea to spank 5000rpm at only 25% temp. Surely the engine's still pretty cold at that point?
giving it a little stick to me means get it up to 5k firmly but gently.
not pedal to metal. Then repeat it. third time around you'l be on full temp anyway
if your engine is screaming & complaing while doing this probably a good idear to back off. More than likely this would also work when at full operating temp.
when i say 1/4 I also mean the needle at quater of 100% on the guage. which means its almost at operating temp.as the needle sits on 50% on the guage. at normal operating temp.
The engine should idle smooth anywhere. even at 7250 if you get there.
more than likely previous owner of Maxwolfies NA must have had some really bad habbits for it to do that.
with a little tender loving care Maxwolfie may be able to get rid of it.
engines respond to how they get treated.
lets face it . this is not going to work if after the first three initial accelerations you start driving like sh*t. The trick is to tell it how you want to drive it. driving spirited is different to thrashing it.
more than likely driving it spirited can be smooth & faster than when thrashing it.
its like chucking wheelies.....the clutch isnt going to like it in the long run. same with all the other bits along the driveline.
