ok so i installed the air filter as seen here

Image

now the filter does shield the intake from the heat. does a good job compared to the mushroom filter that i had on the car before. its slightly warm to the touch on the outside and cool on the inside compared to the engine bay tempreatures.

With my old mushroom air filter, i'd touch that and it would be fairly warm and quite obvious that it was sucking in lots of direct hot air from the exhaust manifold.

All I have to do now is move the wiper fluid bottle and cut a whole for the ducting pipe. 4 inch to 3 inch ducting.

did you get an afm to pod adaptor plate from MX5 Mania or some store here? i had a look around but couldn't find one around here.

wouldn't surprise me if you made one yourself though.

well im not sure if the AVO is exactly approved by regency.

you see.. I asked if the testing that they did back in 92 would be accepted and what they told be was that it had to of been done in a \"something a rather\" test lab and meet with the adr rules.

now im sure AVO did the kit with the specs in mind but if they did it in the certain type of test lab i wouldn't have a clue and neither did AVO. it was done over 13 years or so ago.

I could submit the emissions report from AVO to regency to get the approval for the modifcations but id have to get the emissions report first. and I can't get one until i buy a kit. which i don't want to do if its not road legal. See my problem atm?

futher more after the emissions is verified on the car, brake testing needs to be done on the car to make sure the brake upgrade done onthe car meets the requirements of the extra power produced by the engine.

so how much braking power do i need..?. just 1.6 DBA slotted..??? or 1.8 slotted rotors? wouldn't have a clue.!. and of course if you get it wrong then it will cost you $1500 or so in wasted money and more money til you get the brakes right.

so if you got the spare $10k to get everything done properly then sure it can be done in Adelaide.

$5k for the kit.
$1k for brakes
$1k for installation and misc expenses
$3k - 10k for what ever emissions testing or brake testing that needs to be done. (emissions testing is about $7k here in adelaide if Regency don't accept the emission report by AVO)

if you want it legal and get the money, go for it.

Other wise go for a cheap turbo kit like my greedy or HKS kit.

I still have my kit and im still contemplating installing it but i'll probally do after i have a mortage.

keep in mind that the kit won't be legal.. meaning your car ain't legal and if you ever hit a pedestrian by accident then you'll be paying damages for the rest of your life... so yeh....

Doug Potts

One of the certified Emission testers that the Department here have on their list.

Told him what i wanted to do.. Install an aftermarket turbo on my car and make it road legal to go through regency.

and he said .. roughly around $7000 or you can go interstate to get it done cheaper. So i was like.... Riiiiight...
