Lock up your Daughters Neil and Cal will be Racing in Sydney

Postby neil d » Mon May 08, 2006 6:42 pm

Hi all

Cal and I will be coming down in August to run in the 1hr Production sports car race at Eastern Creek.

There should be a minimum of 10 QLD MX5's making the trip down

How many local 5's will be running in the event??

Any tips on cheap accommodation close to the track would be great.

Excellent news on the QLD contingent.

I would expect about 10 NSW MX5s to compete at Eastern Creek.

Not sure on the accommodation. The QLD contingent may have better ideas as they have visited at least 5-6 years in a row. Whereas it is a stay at home track for us.

Cheers

Brian

Nothing nearby is 'cheap'. Blacktown Travelodge is the nearest Motel to EC in Reservoir Road - about 5 mins from circuit. Otherwise the only cheap place is the Formule 1 Motel at Wentworthville (20 mins from circuit) @$69/night.

How cool would it be to have more than half the field being MX5s...

Hope to have the SE race car on the track for the 1 hour, planning to run in 2F but not sure if I will have time to sort out the restrictor thing.

There is also this place at Rooty Hill RSL...only 10min from E/creek.(I can feel a few rooty hill jokes coming)

NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...

Thanks for the Tip Lou

Would be great to have 20 MX5's running in the same race.

How far is the track from Sydney Centre?

It's probably about 40km. west of the city...most of that is M4 motorway, probably about 30-40min.(if there is no traffic)

It's only about 5min. from my place.

About an hour, depending on traffic (35min @ 5am).

Other accommodation options: Parramatta (20 mins away), Penrith (25ish mins away) and the rodent B&B (5 mins away, but not cheap :P).

Would love to drop in and see youse race.

There is another motel on the Great West Highway at Minchinbury, which is literally 5 minutes away. Henry van Roden & Brian Ferribee stay there when they come down. The name escapes me at the moment, but I will find out. Or you could call Henry! It is not one of the big chains, so it is a bit cheaper but new and modern.

I'll be there to watch of course, as I always am!

I did notice at our NSW Club day yesterday there were quite a few racing MX's there! Made for an exciting day. I was on the grid, sending them out supposedly adequately spaced out so they would not get too close to each other. Boy did I get it wrong! On one lap there were 3 of them abreast on the main straight, heading for the kink! CT got there first, but there was not much in it!
Fun to watch, but needless to say, I did not let the clerk of the course know about it!
