As some of you may remember i had a little episode on my front passenger side which was then re modeled by Big Dog & Dave. I was also picking thier brains on how to go about respraing the \"Almost Stoclk 1.6\".
Some of you perfectionists will cringe at this so be warned. I have also had a go at the fron bumper but the result.....Ok but not as encouraging as this.
I was told to make sure you degrease everything before you even start prepping. So thats what i did.
Other point which i never knew was to put a little detergent into the sandpaper water.
So I started sanding the offending part of the bumper bar back. got it nicely prepped. I used 800 first time. Couln't feel the edges with my fingers so must be OK. So i started spraying some clear undercoat for plasic body parts so the actual paint will stick onto the exposed plasic.
waited 1 hr sanded it back with 1200 this time. degreasing in between as well.
moment of truth......sprayed with the red.......nice sweeps....not too fast slow enough for the paint to melt into itself but not run. There is a trick to it. It seems to be the angle, sweeping speed, correct distance away from the object. nice sweeps. Done.....unfortuntely my prepping was total crap.
rubbed it back some more degreased & another coat. Pretty damm good i couln't believe it. There is certainly an art to that.
Here is the corner (it was acutually the other side)

i kind of eased it out so the difference in colour woulnt be quite so noticable. I was pretty impressed with my effort. Stuff it. I did the other side as well. So now, the whole bumper is done.
The paint came out of a $ 8.95 airosol bottle....

Both images were taken after i had finished the whole thing. in the middle there is some rough stuff because i started running out of paint. I'll give it another coat tomorrow & do the other faded bit.
Now i know. This is not really the thing for a whole car. But if i can get reasonable result from a pathetic little spray bottle. I should do allright with the proper respary.
I think I've just gained my confidence to do the whole car. with the propper equipment.
