I cannot agree with that; they are just different. The factory is more conservative on boost, timing etc. presumeably for longevity. But, the aftermarket guys get more power at the expense of something surely. So, why not have both?

As far as the factory offering more than one program, how are they going to have a base for warranty? All their cars are a compromise of some sort, to fit into a market niche.

The only place I can think of where there is little room for compromise (and cost is the least of their worries) is Formula One; how many choices do they have from the drivers' seats I wonder ...... ? IF it is more than one, then why?

Umm Sean is correct a proper tune will have no issues. This crap about needing 2 maps to get good low down driveability and bigger top end, I would imagine (unless something drastic has changed in the EXEDE in the last 2 years) that this has more to do with the limits of the EXEDE to adequately modify the computers parameters across the RPM range.

Anyway I hope this product lives up to your expecations, though personally if anyone played the "requires 2 maps to get good low-down driveability and high-top end" I would certainly not be letting the door catch me on the way out.

To the best of my knowledge the reason for two maps has NOTHING to do with low down driveability and power issues. Each MAP within the EXEDE has the same level of adjustability within the the standard computers parameters. It's absurd to suggest while I'm tootling around in 5th @ 60km/h I need to use one map then flick the switch when I wanna do 200km/h in 6th! There are few valid resons that this and many other computers have 1, 2, 3 & 4 maps but to have driveability on one and power on the other ain't one of those reasons.

I think VISHNU used to seperate maps in this strange fashion initialy to overcome their lack of experience with the EXEDE and nothing more.

low speed driveability in a tune has nothing to do with peak hp ability.

Sorry Sean, I don't understand what you are trying to convey.

Some one (possibly you I can't be bothered to read back  ) mentioned that two maps could be used, one for low speed driveability and one for max power.

I was trying to to say the same map can do both. I know it's possible cause my car put out over 4 times the power it made standard. It also returns better economy on a long trip than it ever did standard. Economy in a turbop car is more about self control than anything

With a programmable ECU you can set the fuelling to run on MAP or MAF sensors and provide teh right amount of fuel proportinal to the amount of air the car is using.

At light load/low speed cruisng teh computer will tell the car to use less fuel. At high load it will use more fuel. Makes sense really, and it's teh same as an OEM ECU does.

I would think if there was a great benefit to being able to choose different maps then manufacturers would be going along these lines?

And there's the problem, self control

RESULTS: 149.9RWKW @ 10PSI!

I think the final figure is a lil lower than some others have achieved but there could be a few reasons for that.

1. One of the IC connecting pipes that came with the kit just aint quite long enough to get between both pipes and I think it may have been leaking boost. Bit hard to hear it in the dyno cell with the car @ 6000rpm/fan blowing/ear muffs and the fact it's a bloody concrete cell!

2. CEL has come up and we ran outta time to fix it before I left there that arvie(didn't leave 'till 1620!).

3. Bit of a hesitation 'till 4 to 5000rpm. It comes on real hard after that and it aint lag. We ran outta time to sort that one too

I'm pulling it all apart again this w'end to get all the pipework HPC coated. When I get a chance back down there to sort the little probs a it'll hopefully get a better result. In saying that, it drives like a VERY different car now! Even with the hesitation and even the boost leak it craps all over the way it used to drive. 10psi @ 2700 is a good thing and you can feel it. Corners that I used to knock down to 2nd for are happily taken in 3rd. Overall I'm bloody happy with the result(providing the CEL and hesitation can be fixed).

ASE05 - top result BTW.

For mine and others benefits, can you confirm your mods to get 149rwkw?

This is all but the flywheel claims of a standard SP!!!!! Forget the poll; no contest!!

And yet the stupid SP/SE thing still continues on.......

My SP puts out the same power on LESS THAN 9PSI with just a minor boost adjustment from stock and a reflash of the Mazda ECU. So there! Forget the poll; no contest!! :P

Yup, I'm pretty happy with it but I wonder if Mazda will still gimme a warranty........pffft, yeah right!

MODS: SMB SE Upgrade (Same one Mania supply)consisting of:

*3" Exhaust from cast dump pipe back

*3" Metallic Cat Converter

*IC upgrade and piping

*CAI Box and piping

*Grazed knuckles, 2 slabs 'o' Coopers Pale Ale, 2 frustrating days and 2 really late nights sorting out the mess I'd made.

*Chiptorque supplied/fitted/tuned EXEDE

In all honesty, probably better off saving the $1800 + on the EXEDE and just get a FCD for the boost cut. Went onto the dyno with the above parts fitted and no EXEDE and it was 142.9rwkw, only made another 7rwkw with the EXEDE. I don't this this is the final figure though as there were and still are issues to be sorted before it's finished in this incarnation.

Still, lookin' seriously now at upgrading to the SP manifold, turbo and injectors but I guess there are other priorities 1st.....like beer and food!

Thanks for that. I'm quite impressed that's on the standard fuel system. I'll be using an Autronic on mine with similar mods so I am looking forward to a suitably quick little red rocket! 8)

Problem is the standard fuel n turbo side of it don't go much further than that! Chiptorque tried crankin' it up to 12psi and we gained another........1rwkw! Ran outta fuel and the air temps were on the rise so it didn't seem worthwhile to crank it up any more.

I'd be curious to here how you go with the Autronic. I think I jumped the gun with the EXEDE as I don't think it will suit my long term goals.

I'm not suprised at that. My NA engine is almost out of fuel at the top end of the rev range and probably should have bigger injectors - but I solved it with a 220lph fuel pump and surge tank! 440cc injectors with the same fuel pump/surge tank is the plan. It seems to be the way to go based on what the US guys are up to at the moment. Still, a good 150rwkw is not to be sneezed at - that's motoring! 8)

Congrats man,

That's great power for the $$$, and considering it's fairly low/safe boost 8)

What details? 8.75PSI boost with a reflashed Mazda SP ECU, everything else stock SP stuff. 147KW on the same dyno as ASE05 at 32 degrees ambient temp and about 34765676564% humidity. And it goes a lot harder when the ambient temperature drops under 20 degrees and humidity goes back to something sensible.

According to the tuner the limiting factor for my car is the Mazda ECU. By changing to a different ECU there would be a bit more power. But still a reliable 147kw from a $700 dollar investment wasn't to bad.
