is the exhaust close to anything?

try and shake the cat converter by hand, it could have become brittle and disintegrated.

That was the cause of (one of) a rattle on my NA after changing the clutch. When I removed the exhaust, the heatshield on the exhaust was fractured, and I broke it completely.

Fix? Buy some extractors off ebay and get rid of that heatshield completely. :)

I removed the header heatshield 3 years ago.

My header heatshield is also cracked.

I've been trying over the past 3 days to remove the bolts holding it on, i have 2 left to go now. They are firmly rusted in place, i broke a vice-clamp style tool trying to get these first 3 off, buying another this arvo to give the last 2 a crack

You could drill them out, or perhaps grind off the heads.
