broken rubber boot on shifter..

Postby green_comet » Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:20 pm

Hi everyone,

I finally got time to check the oil in the gearbox turret tonight, when i pulled the shifter out, i noticed that the rubber boot on it was torn in half..

Can these be replaced? I couldnt find any way of getting the boot off the shifter...

can anyone recommend anything? If it can be replaced? how to get it off?

cheers
Ryan

Ryan, welcome to the joys of MX-5 ownership. What you have come across is pretty much standard. All 3 MX-5s that I have owned had this same problem. There is info the miata.net garage page on replacing both the gear stick rubber boots. The prices at your Mazda dealer are not too bad, especially if they are a club sponser.

While the boots will be a tight fit they will pull over the shaft of the gear leaver.
