yes (I am led to believe all NB8Bs have a clutch shudder in original form)

Have? no

Had? Yes, On my first NB8B the clutch only gave me troubles one foggy, cold morning in geelong, but apart from that was ok in the 10000km I had it.

On the second NB8B the clutch was a dog, had a second one put in at 20000km (One of the first dodgy ones the dealer and Mazda Aus had seen. I told them at the 10000km service, and they took until the 20000km service to sort out a new clutch.

The second clutch was nice till about 35000km and terribly after that, the worst by far, and I told them it was crap at the 40000. They refused to replace it as I had the 'upgraded clutch' and it 'couldn't fail'

That, and a few other serious errors by the dealer (basically amounting to fraud, but hard to prove) caused me to drop them like a hot potato and live with the clutch till I could find a dealer I truested.

Had the 3rd and final clutch put in at the 100000km service, and it's been fine since.

Interesting to note, of the 2 mazda press car NB8B's I drove, both had outstanding clutches, and were far nicer than the clutches in my car, or any other NB8B I've dríven (probably 6 or so)

Nope, never has. Up to 89000klms on the original clutch and it's had a tough life. 8)

Why is the poll closed - I can't seem to vote????????

It's \"normal\" in that you have described the symptoms of the first few versions of the clutch that failed. If you managed to score a good clutch or got a bodgy one replaced with a good one then it's not normal.

Close to 50000km on my latest clutch and no shuddering. I think Mazda might have finally got it right. 8)

I started this poll cos I bought an 01 in November of 05...same story...no shudder during test but shudder in mornings occasionally...I had 46,000k's, tried talking to mazda & they said they'd never heard of the problem!!!!
Long story short, I live with it and got better at minimising shudder through clutch finesse.
Don't care any more; Mazda can F%^k off, they saved $500 and lost a new car purchaser 4 eva.(9 to date)

Don't worry, our NA does it sometimes too.....whenever it feels like it but generally when cold and reversing:roll:
