Hey!

Mine just arrived at the depot. Cool. Time to play.

Now, are we sure the captive bolt is an M10, not a UNC or 3/8 thread??

HOw many of you have changed the actual seat belt bolt like npn did back on page 2 of this thread? That bothers me, will we have to do that? Or can we just cut the seatbelt plastic cap thing that sits on it?

With my NA, I have had to do neither. I've used the bling spacer, original bolt and plastic cap unaltered.

One question I do have is does anyone who has fitted one of these find the top of the hoops rest against the soft top/zipper?

Amanda - I used the original bolt and original top spacer.

Jules - my (new) roof juuuuuust clears it but flaps against it once the speed goes above about 60Km/hr. Another good reason for driving topless only :)

That sounds pretty annoying??

Mine could do with a 10mm drop, to get some decent clearance. It's into the soft top about 2mm.

I can live with it, as there's no way I'm taking a grinder to the seatbelt tower box.

2mm?! How high do these things go? And quite a long way back by the sounds of it. :?

On an NA they go back as far as the zipper and as high as it as well. Keep in mind the soft top is quite low in that spot.

They clear your head, that's my main interest.

Amanda
I didn't change seatbelt bolt, i just trimmed plastic cap...
Jules, i took mine out after first try at installation, removed a few spacers, and dropped it by about 15mm...and replaced it...much better clearance on soft and hard top!

Umm...ahhh.a few too many  What I did was install it on the friday nite the package arrived, without getting all of the bits I needed and taking my time...I was just too damned excited! Anyways, I used spacers I already had...suffice to say, second time i went out and got exactly what was needed. It clears both hard/soft top easily now, no prob's.

For those having trouble with roof clearance with the bars, the instructions have a few paragraphs on adjusting the roof so it sits higher, if I understand it correctly. Ours just cleared the bar thankfully.

Update. I fitted one of these bars to a friend's NB8A today.

Roof Clearance. The top part of the roof window rubber surround rests on the bar when the roof is erected. We tried adjusting the roof height but it only moves a very small amount - the window rubber still sits against the bar. :frown:

Seat belt shoulder point. I compared the NB bolt with the NA bolt and blow me down if the NA bolt isn't about 15mm longer. :) Just what the doctor ordered. So all that trouble Mike (npn4875) went to getting longer bolts and making shoulder sleeves wasn't necessary. Also the NA plastic caps fit on the NB harness swivels and have far less overhang thus less interference with the bar.

BTW, this bar came from WA and the passenger side hoop is also slightly higher than the driver side :?
