Pinoeer Head unit and Aerial....

Postby ducktape69 » Fri Mar 17, 2006 1:52 pm

hey guys and gals....finally had my pioneer mp3 unit installed in the car and WOW what a difference from the standard deck....

my only gripe is that the aerial is always up when the unit is turned on...even when a cd is in there and NOT the radio....the installer told me all pioneer and sony units are like this....

any advice?

I guess you could install a manual switch to bring it up and down.

Who did you go to for installation btw? I still have my old Rockford MP3 deck sitting around doing nothing.

All i did was cut the blue wire (from memory) and installed a push-on push-off switch from Jaycar and mounted it on the dash next to the dimmer control.

Pic to come later.

Blue wire from the head unit i think. (check that with your installation manual)

Wire....not to sure what i used, doesnt need to me anything special as its only interupting a singnal.

You dont want a momentary button, that will only stay on if you hold it down with your finger..as soon as you let go it switches off.
You need to get a push on/off button that you have to push to switch it on, and then push it again to switch it off..

thanks andrew. i cant put my switch there cause i have a nb8b therefore my fog lights switch is there...but i get the idea....

all im unsure about is where the wiring need to go from? headunit or from the car's loom/wiring? i.e. will this switch be sending a signal to the headunit or to the car(antenna) ?

and should i just straight cut the blue wire? or splice into the existing connection and add the new wire?

The wire is just trigger for the aerial, if it is interupted (with the switch) there is no signal hence the aerial doesnt go up.

sorry im confused....

my existting aerial connection is like this:

HEADUNIT----------=-----------CAR's wiring

should i just CUT this connection so it looks like this:?

HEADUNIT---------- --------CAR WIRING

and then connect the new switch like this:?

HEADUNIT-----------=-----------NEW SWITCH ???

OR should i leave the exisitn connection and splice the wire with the new switch so it looks like:

HEADUNIT
|
|
|
+-----------CAR WIRING
|
|
|
NEW SWITCH

From google - A switch is a device for making or breaking an electric circuit.

all the switch is doing it stopping the signal from getting to the aerial ie: breaking the circuit, which inturn stops it going up and down.

My aerail stays down all the time, when i chooses to turn the radio on i have to press the switch to 'make' the circuit then the aerial will go up.
