Anyone running Toyo R888's, opinions please

Subject says it all.

Am running RA1's that have scrubbed down and they are now coming into their own, but need something to replace the DJ01's for Supersprints this year, was thinking the R888's.

Can't use the RA1's as they are not available in 195/50/15's, but the R888's will be shortly.

They're awesome!!! Great in the wet too. Go a little gummy after 5 hard laps but that's the same with any tyre. Had them on for a fair few k's too (my car is a daily driver) and lasting well. 14inch I have at $800 a set.

Not run them but when I was speaking to the Toyo rep he was of the opinion that the R888 would be worth a second or two over the RA-1's at WP due to it's solid tread pattern.

Yoki AVSES100's, about 50%, they are hopeless in the wet, and to be honest pretty ordinary in the dry too. Good when you first scrub them but down hill from there.

R888 would be worth a second or two over the RA-1's at WP due to it's solid tread pattern.

Only when both are new, once the RA1's are scrubbed the advantage would be lost, but I will give it a try anyway as I am very likely running R888's for Supersprints this year. That is once CAMS gets their stuff sorted. Interestingly a lot of RA1's are pre scrubbed and used as semi slicks.

True, even with mine being knackered now they still hang on quite well.

I couldn't agree more... ES100's are very average and a poor showing from a good company.

As for R888's, I just switched over to them last week (I was on R881's) and so far so good. They make a great street tyre and I'm hoping to get out to the track this week if life doesn't get in the way; At which point I will give you some feedback as to their intended purpose.

Will be interested in your comments Dubly.
So how much track work do you do?
I would have thought that most R rated tyres would be far to noisy, I know the DJ01's are a nightmare on the road.
If you want something that is quiet (well reasonably), and grips like hell on the road you should try the RA1's, no warm up, grip from go and on the road wet or dry they are fantastic.

Had a set of 195/50/15's fitted this morning. Seem pretty good so far, just a run down the M4, suprisingly quiet :shock:

Doing a day at Oran Park tomorrow so will post my impressions.

Sorry Daz, Had a party going on and a few reds under the belt.

Thanks Craig, the list tells the story.

At the moment there is GG compound, G is available on special order I beleive but Steve will run through this Wednesday Night at the Tech Talk.

First impressions are very good.

We ran the South Circuit today, but no timing so I have no idea.

The grip levels were superior to the DJ01's I was running last year, but they had been used so this is not a direct comparison.

Under braking, they just hung on, mid corner grip brilliant.

For the price you get a pretty good wigit that I think will work exceptionally well for supersprints, grip level cold are terrific and I could not get them to go off over 5 pretty hot laps.
