Postby green_comet » Sun Feb 19, 2006 8:16 pm

Hi everyone,

Im interested in getting these rims to use on track days, does anyone know if they are too wide to use, or if the will scrub?? the rears are 15x8 +26 offset, and fronts are 15x7.5 +35 offset...

any help is very appreciated.

I reckon the fronts will be ok, but rears will scrub, and it miiight still scrub a touch even if the rear lips are rolled.

The ideal offset for a 15x8 on the rear is around 48-50. They clear the guards and clear the strut towers(just).

A 26 offset will definately foul the outer guards.

Wow, I love your OZ's. Trade you for my Speedlines

If you're keen to get them on, you could get them to fit. You would need to find a decent machine shop and get them to take 10-15mm off the center of the rear wheels.

Wow...15mm, that's a lot of meat to remove from the wheel! I'm not so sure if I'd want to be driving it after that....if you shaved 15mm off my wheels you'd be machining right past the taper for the wheelnuts.

Babalouie,

Wheel companies don't make a different cast for each offset. They make one and machine it down to specific offsets. So, on a wheel with a offset of +26, if you remove 10mm you now have a offset of +36.

In your case, you likely have a offset of +40 or 45 and if you took 10mm off you would be into the wheel studs.

Very few cars run offsets higher then +45 other then a few exceptions. ie. Subaru's, Corvette's, etc...

Have bolted up the rears? If you don't mind rolling your lips they just might fit.

You are correct but after they machine them they drill the bolt holes and taper to suit the offset as they still have to fit on standard wheel studs. Removing 10mm will probably remove the wheel nut taper.

You very well could be correct. A buddy of mine did this to fit some BMW E21 BBS on his VW. It worked perfectly.

In my experience most low offset wheels come with longer wheel bolts which would indicate to me the holes are not drilled super deep on low offset wheels.

MX5's use studs not wheel bolts. A simple test would be to mount the low offset wheel on the car and to look if the stud threads clear the seat. If it clears by a lot the holes are drilled extra deep and there might not be enough room to machine the center down. Alternatly, if the threads barely clear there is lots metal that can be removed.

*This is a quick and easy test and not the proper way of doing things
