markings on my RT 215's

markings on my RT 215's
Ted was mentionong something about the Falken RT-215's being available in 3 different compounds.
so here are my markings
tyre size 205/15/50
made in japan
V 85...... speed rating ?
H08R2904 ....last 4 digits i assume to be Date of manufacture not sure about the first 4
V436....no idear
PR-157-01 ...also no idear
it would be interesting to hear from those in the know.
edit: Changed speed rating from W86 to V85

Well the important thing is that you paid a tyre shop to sweep the sand away from the edges

I don't recall ever seeing that the RT215's came in different compounds. Some used to say it depends on where they were made but those were usually the shops against Tempe bringing in their own!
I think Ted may have got them confused with Dunlop DO1's or something. But would be interested to hear if anyone knows otherwise.
Someone mentioned speed rating of the mx5 tyres, does the car really need a w rating, I really doubt any stock mx5 will ever get close to the 270km/h that a w is rated for ... perhaps v is more logical.

Stan, I think in another thread someone had said the car was stock with a w rating (hard to believe) but if this is the case then it's worth keeping in mind as having tyres with a lower speed rating is enough for insurance companies to knock back claims.
Actually just checked my owners manual and the stock tyre was 185/60/14 82H (H=210km/h). This is for an 89 model.

I didn't get the markings on mine, will do tonight (hopefully).
With the compounds, I tried a set when they first appeared, some 7 or 8 years ago. Were sticky as all hell, and only marked with Falken Azenis. Then they started getting popular. Sometimes the Australian importer only brings in a single compound. For example the Bridgestone RE55, when they first came in, everyone running a car over about 1250kgs started complaining that they could only get one day out of them before they were well worn. Yes, with the D01J you can get SS and SM here, I think there is a third compound available ex-Japan.
Remember the old Dunlop W1-Spec R, fantastic and grippy tyre for the money. Did some of my fastest lap times on these. Then they went to the W10, and these were quite a step back. Same with the RE71 Bridgestone, the RE710 was quite ordinary though it was about this time that the true R tyres started appearing.

Those W10's were terrible. I had them on the Pug, they were noisy, terrible in the wet and greassy in the dry.
