Car covers, which one

Can anybody recommend a car cover that goes over the entire car? Do they all rub the paint work on the corners therefor negating the worth of having one? What about ones that are lined with a soft material?

I regularly put a car cover on my MX if I am not going to be driving it for a couple of days. I think they are a good idea if your car is continually parked under trees...bird poo and sap I try to strap mine down tightly with extra clips to avoid excessive rubbing. I have noticed the wax on the edges can suffer but it does not seem to scratch the actual paint finish. I wax the car about every 3 months and the paint looks like new. If you decide to buy a cover do not buy a cheap one as they will not last long - I had a blue motoguard one which lasted 3 months I now have a white Kenco cover which is made out of a light weight material which I think is called Tvek. It is very durable and seems to be easy on the paint work.

I purchased an "Autotecnica" one. Very fluffy and soft on the inside, very thick coating on the outside, easy to clip underneath.

I use a white Kenco cover also. It's manufactured from a DuPont material Tyvek. Feels soft and sort of slippery on the inside.

I've used it for about 6 months now with no noticable deterioration/marks on the car - corners or mirrors. However, dirt is the enemy - I do make sure car is clean before putting cover on, keep cover off the ground when folding/unfolding and store it in the bag when not in use.

As well as keeping bird poo off, it does keep car interior appreciablely cooler on hot days.

Cover is apparently washable, although I've not tried that yet.

They come in several sizes - 'Small' is suitable for MX5. I bought mine at SCA, but it wasn't exactly cheap.

From experience, though, DON"T use one of the cheap nylon covers!!

Spranga, how much was your blue motoguard cover as I got one thrown in when I brought the NC. The salesman says they're worth $250 but I can't see them being worth that much?

I cannot recall precisely but I think it was $40-50. I think the Autotechnica ones are not even worth $250.

i have the cover from mx5 mania and i have to say i think its excellent. the botom has an elastic section which holds it in place and holds it tight against the body work - it fits perfectly and does not seam to move around in wind.

i dont put it on if the car is dirty, only clean, and it does not seem to have damaged the paint.

it was quite expensive, but i very good qaulity!
