Sava & Fulda from Bob Jane

Just browsing through the Bob Jane catalog and saw these 2 brands. Both 195/50 R15 at $99 & $119 respectively. Anyone tried these tyres? I couldn't find much info on either but I did read the fulda Attiro winning the 2003 ADAC test which means nothing to me but sounds good :D Will be looking at new tyres soon so my options are still open

Opinions please.

ADAC is the German Version of NRMA.

LOL.......i spotted these at one of my Bob Jane dealers just yesterday & asked what they were............the reply was, & i quote......"just some cheap crap the group bought in as a loss leader"...........straight from the horses mouth............he said they're a bitch to balance :)


bear in mind i'm not a customer, so the reply might change in the translation :wink:

Fulda has been around for years. Didn't they "pay" for the Maybach Excelero project for tyre testing? Nice testing mule!

My boys ran over a nail while I was away in WA and when I got back I had a set of German made Fulda's on the SP. Mr Bob Jane apparently told them it's the same compound as the Yokohamas I had on b4.

They certainly stuck allright when they were new, but of course that could just be the "new tyre" effect. I used them at Morgan Park and they didn't seem to behave a lot different to any other half decent road tyre... I'll have them on still for the QR track day week after next, and might be able to give some better feedback then. Prolly too late to be any use tho! ;)

No won't be too late for feedback npn4875. Soon but not that soon for replacements :D How are they in the wet?

As I said, they seemed surprisingly good when new, but that could be down to new tyres/reasonable compound. They feel to have gone off a bit now, to be honest all tyres feel that way to me - could be just wearing, could be me gettng used to them?

A common selling spiel for the cheaper tyres is that "they are the same as a Michelin/Yokohama/Good Year/etc, but just the old model". There is a fair bit of bed sharing with tyre companies, just like with car manufacturers, but for the saving of what would amount to $100 for a set of tyres over 25-40Kkms, I can't see the value. Another consideration is getting tyres that suit your driving style, car and roads. One easy way to stuff up a car with good balance and grip is with bad tyres.

And like most car manufacturers, there are good and bad models in every brand. Comparing a $120 Fulda to a $400 Fulda is not the way to go. I still remember saving $100 on a set of tyres by going with the $175 instead of $200, and complained everyday about them.

yep mike, it was the savas..............a "loss leader" is a product bought in bulk for a cheap price & then sold at a loss, this is mainly done to get bums in the door & then offer the option of a better product that they are making money on............supermarkets do it all the time, & let's face it, Bob Jane is the supermarket of tyres 8)

Don't get the Savas! They were fitted to my car when I bought it. I didn't know better at the time else I'd have gotten them to fit me some decent rubber! The Savas wear quickly, go fairly hard in short time and I found them to be almost dangerous in the wet. And they weren't much better in the dry, either.

they are W rated and even the michelin precedas are V rated

Well, we're all home from Willowbank. We did 3 lots of 5 timed laps of the Clubman circuit, and one lot of the National circuit (well, I did, some guys squeezed in another blat on the National)

It was a hot one, although some cloud came over later so it didn't get as frazzling as it sometimes can be.

I dropped my pressues (cold) from 40 to 36psi after reading all the thoguhts in the forum here and checking my wear pattern. It's because I have 45 profile tyres, I would still go to 40 for normal 80 profile if it was to get any kind of performance work. That gave me about 41 psi hot, after the run on the National circuit.

Result? I was the fastest MX5 there, in fact just about the fastest anything other than race machinery. A couple of worked WRX's and so forth had me by a second or two.

The tyres didn't go "off" or greasy on me at all, over that number of laps. And at the end the tyres were showing surprisingly little wear and tear - they looked much more tattered when they were newer up at Morgan Park.

So all up I reckon they certainly pass muster! Especially at the price. :)
