maybe the rb74 need alot of heat to be working effectively and because of the light weight of the mx5 they aint that suited......

where can i get my hands on a front set of bendix ultimates for my na6???? and how much

300 kilos and 50kws will do that to brake pads. Thing is, DS2500s are a fast road/sprint track pad. Perfect for supersprints, hillclimbs, khanas etc on the MX5. DS3000 are full spec race pads as you know and the MX5 doesn't need them until you up the grip ante with r tyres or slicks. I was doing 13/14s at wakefield on DS2500s and I was the first to have them brought into the country for the MX5. That why most MX5 racers use Hawk Blues - simply the best for the job at the right price. You'll find the Hawk HPS is probably the compromise pad for the NB series cars it's just that they are new and I'm not sure if anyone on this forum is trying them yet. I won't be trying them for another 45,000klms when the DS2500s wear out. 8)

went from oem to hawks to bendix advanced now to race brakes.

went from oem to hawks to bendix advanced now to race brakes and your right they do lack feel, but they bloody stop you fast, better and quicker then all the others and not much dust either, 91 1.6 na dríven hard almost everywhere and they are great, only way to get the right pad is to try them and see which one feels the best to you mate.
p.s. the bendix were the worst brakes ive ever had.

Oh crap...... I ordered and paid for a set of front and rear EBC Greenstuff on Friday after I picked the car up. Been very happy with them on my Skyline and my cousins 535iS, awesome fade free brakes. The ones on the BMW didnt look too good after we had them catch on fire after a hills run one night though. Still didnt fade, but they didnt look too healthy.

i believe its fairly straight forward...
if you want "feel" on an mx5 with standard rotors - you want a pad that works best at (really) low temps. And they won't last the distance on the track... if you want a better track pad - it won't work as well at low temps... and they will subsequently lack 'feel' on the street, since the majority of the time, they'll probably be too cold to be effective.
Pads that operate 'fade free' on something like a 5 series bmw are really going to struggle to be effective on an mx5!!!
You really won't have to spend much money at all on a pad that bites an mx5 on the street... OEM to me would be just fine...

I am running a higher temperature variant of an RB74 (called an A1RM) that to me, are a brilliant compromise for me - since i will likely get caught out before a track day without the time to change to racier pads... and they'll do the job... but they have very little bite on the street.
To my mind, they're identical to the Endless NA pads i had on the car immediately prior to these - for nowhere NEAR as much money... the next few steps up from these are noisy, hard and high temperature... but after you absolutely stand on them once or twice on your out lap... they're awesome. The only problem i have with any of these range of pads is the fact that i'm too gutless to try and close 80-100ks in such tiny distances on the track... :oops:

Also, I don't think dusty = high performance at all (not that i care about dust)... QFM/RaceBrakes pads to me seem extremely 'clean'. You'll find a lot of euro cars with low low temperature pads designed for colder european winters suffering much more from dusty black wheels...

Its great to see what everyone has to say abotu the different pads. I never liked the ultimates - shitloads of dust and faded quickly (but that was on an rx7) i've now gone the 1.8L rotor route on my NA and put in the EBC redstuff (greenstuff had a huge wait) I have to say they dont have the initial bite on the street but they are clean as a whistle, had them for about a month and the wheels arnt dirty at all, thats with spirited driving. I'm yet to take it out on the track and see how they perform.

Are there any independent tests carried out anywhere that have tested the various pads on the same vehicle under the same conditions???

Only thing I've heard about the EBC Greens is they disappear very quickly under track conditions, so hopefully the reds are better?

I've bought a set of slotted rotors and Galfer Tuning pads. Haven't had a chance to fit them yet. Has anyone run this setup or can comment on the Galfer pads?

But...... You cant get Redstuff for NA8 brakes... I asked my parts guy for Reds and he said they didnt do them for MX5's and that I could only order the greens. F***ing bastard!
