MX5 Club of Qld

Glassshouse Mountains Summer Breakfast Bash

Sunday 5 February

Contact: Mike Stratford-Smith 0427006765
or email mikemarsh@hotkey.net.au

Some really great backroads including the Bellthorpe range, and the perennial Glasshouse favourites. Apart from the official regroup points between each section, there are picturesque interim regroup points within sections, which means the coffee flask will be useful.

Format:
A summer run, which means: to avoid getting fried, an early start and a reasonable mid-morning finish. Running format is “regroup points”, so drivers may proceed at their own pace. However it is an MX5 Club of Qld event*, so appropriate conduct on public roads is required.

Navigation is by Tulip Diagrams. Contact by radio and mobile phones.

With the “regroup point” system it is especially important to advise the run leader if you are not planning on completing any section, otherwise the entire group will wait for you.

There will be a sub-group on each section running to traditional convoy format, or like minded drivers may like to form smaller convoys.

Meet for Section 1 at 5:30 a.m. on Gympie Road on the Bald Hills Flats, Northbound. UBD map 109 C3.

Regroup point and start of Section 2: BP Wamuran, D’Aguilar Highway. Start 6:30 a.m.

Regroup point, breakfast stop and start of Section 3: Moby Vic’s, Bruce Highway. Brekky 7:30 a.m. Start 8:45 a.m.

Regroup point and start of Section 4: BP Wamuran, D’Aguilar Highway. Start 9:45 a.m.

Ends Strathpine, 10:45 a.m.

Sunshine Coast Chapter members may wish to meet for breakfast and do Sections 3 and 4, then go home via sections 1 and 2 afterwards, finishing around 12:30

* Guests welcome but will be required to pay current Insurance fee (+/- $4.00)

Can you be a bit more specific please Mike? By the side of the road or is there a parking area there somewhere?

On the map above, it's about where the smaller of the two creeks crosses under Gympie Rd. (We'll start with a left turn into Centenary)

By the side of the road, there's plenty of space (where the guy sells Lychees if you're going past in the day)

There will be the MX5 Club Qld banner up if Peter S remembers to bring it to the Committee meeting tonight. Otherwise two cars parked from 5:15.

The main thing is to be going "Westbound" ie towards Strathpine from the Bruce highway. Then you can't miss it.

Wouldn't it be better to start in the park across the road? You can turn right into it from Gympie rd at lights and then we can go straight across into centenary wy when we start. That is where we started the Kilcoy Rally from and it was a great place to start.

I know it will be early but I went through there on Sunday and I wouldn't want to stop on the side of the road there and gather with a banner etc. Just a thought.

Oh and when you refered to Peter S, it was the other Peter S wasn't it because I don't have a club banner

JBT.... look, it says "westbound" ;)

PS - Yep the other Peter S has the banner. Will ask Mike S-S about moving the start to the park, sounds a good plan to me.

OK its coming on well. After the Marque breakfast run today (great company and interesting cars, but the run was a bit short and busy with traffic) we're really looking forward to a "driver's run" on Sunday. The scenic lookouts and brekky stop ought to make it a good outing for the co-drivers and if the weather's anything like today, it'll be a top day for a drive.

Shoot me a PM or email if you're coming so I can let Mike S-S know (a bit of a luddite technically, not forum-savvy!)

See you there :)
