Removable Head Units

Postby CT » Thu Jan 26, 2006 10:15 am

Remember the old days before detachable face head units and you could buy units that you slid out and took away with you - like a small black handbag  . Anyway, does anyone know if you can still purchase this type of head unit?

i read a thing about them a while ago.. i believe that they are no longer made as when people stopped bothering to remove them, someone else helped themselves to them!

I do agree that they would be a great idea for the mx, but why not just a detachable face?

It's for a road registered race car. It would be nice to be able to pull the whole thing out at the track, otherwise detachable face it will be. Cheers :D

fitted using a slide-in mounting bracket, any head unit should be easy to remove quickly (with the little removal tools!). just undo 2 or 3 plugs at the back and it's out!

CT, I have a stereo which has the removable face unit. I am thinking of upgrading, but need to do some research when I have 5 minutes to myself. I want to try and keep the amp, speakers and stacker, but not sure if a new head unit will be compatable.

Bottom line is if you aren't in a hurry, I can look into it and sell you mine....

its really easy to take the centre console out to get the deck out. if youre serious about getting ur car as light as possible y not just take its out manually. it seriously takes me about 3mins to get it all apart and im just a dick that knows nothing bout cars.

Alpinehave a the "FantomFaxe XL" model with "Anti Theft Detachable Face"

CDA-9855R

Their "Classic" range has "Anti Theft Detachable Face" too

CDA-9847
CDE-9845
CDE-9843
CDM-9821
CDE-9841E
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Hi Agro - sorry for the late reply but I am definitely in no hurry. Won't be needing anything for at least two months. Although I just found a head unit that takes USB sticks for MP3s - that might nearly be a good result. I'll let you know. 8)
