well expensive they are but not when nothing goes wrong with them - they are just like every other car with drink heaps of fuel....

Unless you happen to blow 2 engines like I did

2 Rotor housings at around 1300-1500 a piece, I needed 2 on both motors
Seal kits at aound the 1300-1500 bracket
Eccentric shaft if you're unlucky enough to need one, mine were OK
Centre and End Plates $Unknown. I had early S1-3 RX7's unlike your S6(?) so my end plates and centre plates could be machined flat at least, however from the S4 onwards they need to be replaced if scored or damaged as they incorporated some of the seal rings in them and not all built into the rotor housings like the S1-3 had.

Moral of the story - find an import engine and fit it yourself if possible!

P.S. I got 500klms from a tank of fuel out of my S2 when I took it to Thredbo one year!

500km is almost unheard of from a rotary - the best my car was doing was 430 ish when it was bone stock with a 76 litre tank......

i got mine installed for $1200 with glass heated rear window, its vinyl, and a lovely fit - i thought of buying one and fitting it myself but a patient man I am not...

you are indeed a better man than I - whilst i relish the idea of having a go at anything mechanical on my car (makes them sooo much more rewarding to drive IMHO) i feared the combination of fabric, metal braces and the fact that i know nothing about it - the thought of saving several hundred $ to do the work myself was attractive, but the boss suggested that i not take a gamble like that - she knows me well enough for me to heed her advice.

the price on these aftermark tops vary drastically - car trim 1700, mx5 mania about 1400 and a few others around 800 and 900 for abut the same product - what is the deal...

Might be like a car perhaps, like comparing a Hyundai to a Mercedes? Some may be better than others and have little extras included. Hard to say really.

the material tops are far better than the vinyl oem - i just want something that is low maintenance and last a long time.... material looks great. the vinyl just cracks after a while...

My OEM top was 11 years old when I sold it to Matt, and it's still working, so don't be too worried on price as they last for ages

Think of it as total cost of ownership i.e 1400 / 10 years = $140 a year for top down freedom, quite cheap really!
