TASSIE!!!!

Postby Hot Rodders » Wed Jan 11, 2006 2:28 pm

Just got back from 5 days in Tassie. WOW!  Keep off the main roads and boy are there some great winding roads. Unfortunately there were 3 of us, so the MX had to stay home. :( :(
Without opening a can of worms, the Daewoo handled the twists quite well, but Oh, to have had the MX :D :D
It would be great if some of our Tassie cousins could organise a week long run, it would be a gass!
We saw only 5 MXs'. Three were parked. :?
Has anyone else experienced the roads of Tassie?

11 cars from the Canberra Chapter did the Targa Trail in 2004 - two weeks of bliss on a stick.

Yeap, did the Targa trail in Easter 2004. Awsome place, nearly every road looked like it was designed for MX5's. And they have sensible speed limits to add to the fun. 8)

Yeah, wasn't it great to see nearly every road posted at 110 kph!

I dont remember many 110km/h speed limits but I do remember at a sensible distance after the last house in a town generally the limit went up to 100km/h unlike in NSW where there is about a 2km continuation of the intown speed limit outside of town. On a lot of the 100kmh roads we went on you'd be hard pressed to actually do the speed limit let alone exceed it. Most would be limited to 60/70kmh in NSW. So much fun and all perfectly legal. Bliss! In NSW you would loose your licence having so much fun.

I wonder if we could hijack the Spirit of Tasmania? On second thought maybe we could get a group deal instead.... I couldn't think of a better holiday 8)

Karen & I did Tassie last year in Pumpkin, not long after Big Gay Al had his Big Gay Boat Trip. The weather was incredible: top up one day in 10. The roads around Queenstown, Strachan, and north of Swansea were the best from my POV. Saw only one other MX-5 there. The couple in it waved enthusiastically.

Cheers,
Alf

actually Gilly, transport tasmania is VERY willing to do group deals on the spirits, a LOT of motoring enthusiast groups use this service to get large numbers of cars/bikes to tassie on a regular basis :D

the roads you mention ARE awesome Alf, but i could show you just as good in just about any part of tasmania, the best bit being you are never more than about an hour from a major centre to use as a base camp 8)

I wonder if the Vic club would host a Tassie natmeet?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I did Tassie in the MX-5 Feb-March last year, had an absolute ball. Some of their "C" class roads are better than our main roads. I managed to do 21 targa stages as well in the time we were there.

Only down side was hitting a rock on Elephant Pass and a Wallaby in Spring Beach but apart from that it was great. Loved the east coast the most.

And they still hand out cautionary speeding tickets down there too
