Lazy Eye
Merry Christmas to all!!!
I recently thought that i had stumbled across the schematic (wiring) diagram to convert the NA pop up lights to be a fully adjustable "lazy eye" set up... However, when i went to re-open it the other day, it was gone and i am buggered if i can find it ANYWHERE on the Net again. If anyone has this, or knows it's location please let me know or post link!

I was tinkering around my 5 this morning and found a unit with the label 'PIVOT RHU-M'.
Apparently the previous owner in Japan used this to setup a fully adjustable 'lazy eye' which is what you want?. Its not exactly a free mod (cost around $150 for the unit) but you might be interested in googling that.[/img]

i happened to stumble across the 'poor mans lazy eye' on my searches and think i will give it a go as my partner would kill me if i spent $150+ just for the car to look slightly different

Awesome! I always thought the front headlights on the NA's were a bit "in your face" - I'll give this a go later...

G'Day maxwolfie,
i am more thinking purely for the day time 'style' rather than visability. i cant imagine how bad it would actually be at night...
I figure if you want the visability as well, you better get the quad light conversion for over $1K...
i did a quick test and just pulled the 30A fuse out whilst tuening the lights on, sure enough, they stop dead, but like in the link i posted, the headlight raise/lower indicator stays lit in the binnicle... bit annoying, i might see if i can get around that if i feel inclined at a later date..

I've got the Pivot unit and I have to say that it doesn't work all that well.
Half the time one headlight goes up faster than the other so it's a bit of a lottery if you get both at the same height Also when you go over bumps the headlights can "ratchet" up or down a bit so after a while they are at different heights again.
It's a nice bit of Japanese auto kitsch (and hence I have to have one ) but it's not a satisfying mod IMHO.

Really? Poo!! I really wanted to give this a go.....
If your not using it, or you dont want it - Can you either sell it to me or pull the thing apart to give me an idea as to how to build something similar?? Obviously there's a pot there and I'm guessing there isnt much else??

Nah, although it doesn't actually work, I do like it. Having lots of mysterious boxes with knobs on them hanging off the dash makes the car look more "manga"...even if the knobs don't work
I will take the top off it and snap a few pics for you tho...brb.

Excellent, I'm guessing its just the pot and maybe one or two extra components.. It cant be too complicated

my thoughts exactly...
i have done the REALLY cheap option (just a switch in line with the fuse) and it works, but my lights sit at slightly diferent angles too... might be pssible to separate the signals for fine tuning of each light, or just have it wink!!

Yeah, I'm going to try the same thing tomorrow.. $2-3 for a switch and some wire cant hurt too much, I will let you know!
By the way, having the lights at 1/2 way up - Can that do any damage? I.e. "knock" the lights down or whatever when you want them up totally?

nah mate, all that you are doing is cutting power to the motors, as soon as you press the on/off switch again, they either raise right up, or raise, then lower if your lights are turned off. simple, VERY cost effective.. and kinda cool!
