legal wieght reduction?
hi all
just wondering if there are any LEGAL wieght reducing mods that can be done particularly to an NB8A...? heard of someone removing the soft top, how longs that take?
and why not... what are some illegal ones like removing air bags

be interesting to see if theres some that can be done quickly and easy on track side, ie drive there in a legal car race a part striped car, leave in a legal car ......... WITHOUT using a trailer and a second car heheh.

legal issue? not that i am aware of. u might do it at ur own risk .
i am told that weight of items on a NA:
the softtop: 60 ponds
ps and ac: 100 ponds
have u removed ur spare tire yet? how about 2 lightweight bracket seats? try to remove the passenager and c how u like it. say no to ur passenager and save another 60 kilo or more.

I know James (aka Sidewinder) pretty much took most things out of his NB for the jenny craig effect. And he still had his rego plates.
I'd say carpet is a good starting point. It's a biatch to get out, but there's a good 5kgs, then take out the jack, the toolkit, and as mentioned the spare tyre and softop.
Then get stuck into the towhooks (baby teetch) front and rear
If you want to go more drastic?
junk the stereo, the windblocker, the A/C etc.
Then go lightwieight exhaust, lightweight wheels.... the list goes on!

Light wheels are the way forward when you prepare a race car you concentrate on unsprung mass (wheels and suspension) saving weight there is most important because all spinnig mass drains horsepower and then you try to get the weight central and low in the body. All weight loss is good but there is no point loosing the roof is you have a heavy set of wheels on it.

haha, eggbox good idea, sounds like my kinda wieght loss programe.
can live with less carpet in the boot and maybe parcel shelf and.. wind blocker
but how long dose it take to remove the soft top? and further more, put it back on?? would it be a afternoon job?
what CAN i take to with a hole saw and not be in trouble for?

is the car road registered???
then check with the RTA as im sure you cant remove the air bags and keep it registered...
the roof is about 20Kg??? and i know a lot of people have changed theirs.. but from what i have heard its a "give it to some one else" job
and takes about an afternoon...
like everyone else has said, remove everything from the boot, tyre, jack carpet, plastic linings and the metal plate infront of the fuel lines...
carpet in the car, passenger seat if you like, centre console (just leave the switch for the power windows)
dont remove the tow hooks if your going to the racetrack.. most track days and racing you need them to get through scrutineering.. so if you get boged they can tow you out.
other than that.. it strats to become permanant mods.. ie drilling holes...
but you can remove the plastic gards behind the front wheels etc...
