So if one buys a used MX5 and has no idea of the history of care taken by the PO... is one best to buy 303 Protectant or merely wash with soapy water? So I would also assume that whatever method you start off using is the one you continue to use....

I tghink that soapy water and a fine scrubbing brush does the trick. Both armoural and 303 leave streaks on the paint as they wash off. the roof is not supposed to be shiney ... the dull look is better IMHO

No no, sorry you miss understood... from working in a lab for many years - breaking down vinyl is very difficult. Thats what I was getting at, and the ingredients in the 303 in no way will affect the vinyl. Mazda telling you that it will break down is incorrect. Also there are none of their 'magical' uv treatments left in my dry and hardened roof!!
