Just went to have sticky at my ECU - no can do, two of the five nuts holding the cover panel are conical anti-tamper nuts .

How do people get these off? Is it possible to get them off without damaging the stud? I guess I could grind the whole thing off, or cut the panel, but if there is a trick I'd prefer to not mutilate things. Tried search, but that didn't do it for me.

I have tried my vicegrips, but they show no sign of moving it, Mazda may have used a thread locker as well

What about a hammer and centre punch, and tap it out (by tapping anticlockwise around the axis)?

Maybe if can get enough purchase, or dremel a couple of straight/flat sides to fit a spanner or socket (angle may not allow spanner). I can recall they were awkward to get at so I just took the easy way out ...

Ground mine off too - I think that's the most common way to do it.

8-10 MM drill bit and ream it on hard until the head is drilled off. Very easy with a powerful battery drill and sharp drill bit.

I've had mine on and off multiple times and got a very deep cut ONCE - I learned the hard way and now always handle it with utmost care.
