NB Header information

Hi everyone,
considering a supercharger and I've been reading that the 01+ NB headers are pretty good already and may not be a significant upgrade/restriction. Can anyone confirm this or how to identify the 'good' headers? Not chasing specific numbers and the intake manifold and engine will remain stock.
Cheers
Peter

They certainly are not bad at all (01+ only, I would never say this about other mx5 designs, ever). However superchargers making 300whp need 300whp worth of exhaust flow for example.
If you intend to make 150whp they will be great, at 200whp they will be a restriction.

As dann noted they are pretty good from the factory. I have only upgraded the secondaries and fitted a hi flow cat. I find it hard to justify the extra kw or 2 for the 500 bucks for decent headers

Thanks guys - any easy way to visually identify if I've got the good headers?

Check the year number of your car. Dann stated 2001 onwards.
What supercharger are you considering?

Nb8b onwards got the good headers. So late 2000 (like mine) onwards.
What kind of supercharger are you looking at?

Thanks - I meant the headers themselves as the year number of the car doesn't really tell me anything except what headers *should* be on the car.
Supercharger is a rotrex as part of a kraftwerks kit. Unfortunately I now have an unscheduled service to do first (engine replacement). Still looking at aftermarket headers but Mania only want to sell full exhausts currently.

Can you take a pic of the headers on your car, or is there a heat shield covering them? Even if there's a heat shield a pic of the upper & lower parts might still provide enough visibility to identify them.

American cast manifold
I know the American early NBs had a cast manifold but I hadn't realise the aussie design had changed when the VVT model was released.
Does anyone have a comparison photo?

any chance for a stock secondary also?
I bought Regie's old SMB cat back exhaust for NB for my future track build.
Just wondering if worth upgrading the header or keep it stock. The car I will likely be getting is NB8B onwards and engine will stay stock for cheap/worry free, but slow track running.
