I'm currently shopping around for turbo new and used for my na6 and came across this one on a facebook group.

The guy said it was some australian brand but couldn't remember the name of it. :|

I did manage to get photos of it. All it had to identify itself was a plate riveted on saying gt2871 and a serial number.

No shaft play. Was wondering if I can trust this turbo (and the guy selling it).

GT2871 is a Garrett designation but that ain't a Garrett.

The casting looks like a china charger to me.

And it looks T25 sized. Regardless anything between a small T25 and a big T28 will work on an mx5, slap it on and see.

Depending on how used it is, might be worth it.
Though brand new chinacharger GT2871 are going for less than $300.

Thanks guys. I've been trying to figure out if it's a chinese turbo or not. If it is, then the obvious economical option would be to go to the resellers near my house (999automotive/kls) and pick up a new one with wastegate for around $250-260 and are willing to give me 1 year warranty on them.
