Cutting flange off std exhaust manifold.

I lopped the pipes off with a 7" grinder, now I've been filing for at least an hour on the welds inside the flange.

Is there an obvious easier way I've overlooked? I have blisters forming.

Cheers.

Die grinder is what you need. Even a Dremel with a grinder tool would work ok.

Wow, that would be a $hit of a job with a hand file.

Yeah you need a die grinder, I have used stock flanges and have welded the unwelded side of the pipe remains onto the flange and then welded steampipe on as usual and just match ported the whole thing with a gasket.

Your steam pipe if you are using that will be slightly smaller than the port when crushed to suit it, so it needs alight portwork regardless.

It's literally a Bastard.

Idk if the die grinder I tried isn't powerful enough or has the wrong stones but it just seams to polish the steel.

I am getting an hourly rate and it's a good workout so it's not all bad.

Tks.

To get the weld off and porting/cleaning the inside of a exhaust manifold, i use a Carbide or Tungsten bit on a air powered die grinder.
it cuts it like butter!

Use one of the very aggressive carbide bits made for aluminum and hold the grinder very right in both hands.

Be careful the shaving that land on you are all razor sharp so don't brush them off you will just push dozens of splinters straight into your arms neck and hands. Wash them off.

This will get it done in about twn minutes.

Cheers guys, I'm over filing, I'll get a carbide bit.

Off topic (hey it's my thread), Dann your 1.25 buttweld all seem to line up nicely but the tightest radius 90s I could get are longer than the Ts ie: I have to weld 10mm on the T or cut down the 90 so it will weld on the flange at an angle.

Where do you buy yours?

Nvm, found some.

FYI the 1.25 buttweld from Onesteel line up sweet, from Blackwoods not so.
