ECU is off tomorrow to be modified, when it gets back, out comes the Commodore bits.

Good on you Steve - great to hear about a different approach to MX5 modding on the forum.

For interested readers it might be worth including your initial thread on this for background:

I'll be following this out of "morbid curiousity" alone (while I admire ingenuity, I can't understand why you put yourself through all this grief when there are many better alternatives available).

By all accounts the 289 cobra was a sweet car, the 427 an undriveable monster. There is such a thing as too much power.

Is the original engine broken and you had a spare free 3.8 in the shed?

My choosing the L67 was due to it being a very compact engine, very reliable even when pushed well up power wise [we see units over 400,000k on original engines]. Weight is similar to the LS1 which has been fitted and worked well. The donor car cost me $1850 of which I have salvaged 1/2 to cars we were repairing. The poor MX5 goes ok, what budget would I need to get into the 12's with a Mazda engine? Using the commode diff, balance should be close to 50/50 as the yanks get close with the Winsor or LS1's. I can't find anyone who has tried this as most yankie 3.8's are FWD, so this is no suprise. Legality is not an issue. Minor mods will see 225kw with 300kw [flywheel] achieved around Oz with stock or near stock internals, thats cheap power!
The old 1.6 is in good nice as well as the gearbox and LSD diff.

Good luck with the conversion, not my cup of tea but it will be definately different.

A few things.
You'll reach the limit of the size of the supercharger well before your quoted power figures, even at a genuine 225kw. 300kw with near stock internals, not likely, definately not reliably, and not cheap. If you've read it on some Holden forum somewhere it's more than likely crap.

Cheers
