Re: mx5 se ecu removal
WARNING! Please make spare copies of your key through Mazda (they will need to code it) as you will not be able to make any more copies if the factory PCM is no longer connected. The issue is that the key sends a signal to the factory PCM. Not having the factory PCM will also cause a red light to flash continously on the dash. A WA SE owner with a fully built engine, custom turbo kit and an aftermarket ECU has lost one of his keys and is unable to make any more copies as he cannot return the car back to factory due how far he has gone with his car. Mazda is happy to help code a new key but they require the factory PCM to be connected and the car started. This is simply not an option when you have built engine with a different fuel, ignition setup and alternator.
If you are only planning to remove it temporarily and return it unmolested then ignore my warning.
All NB ECUs are located in passenger footwell below the carpet and metal cover.

WARNING: Be careful when removing the cover plate, it's sharp (I got a nasty cut the first time I removed it - now it gets a lot of respect).
