Turbo to supercharger?

hello

iv been thinking of maybe going down the supercharger path.

now my NA 1.6 already has a Greddy turbo kit TD05 16g,ext gate , forged motor, ecu, etc with about
280 rwhp on 14psi.

now i know if i do get a supercharger for it wont make as much power as it did but what is lost up top will be gained down low?

I see full boost at about 3800-4000rpm so its abit laggy.

I like the sound of the Jackson Racing M45 Supercharger but i dont know if its any good.

could i get peoples opinions on going from turbo to supercharger or the other way around?
and what superchargers kits are good etc?

thanks
Glen

Wow - so you have a car pushing 280 rwhp and you want to go with a blower? Is it the lag that you have a problem with? OK OK, each to their own...

AVOID the JRSC. Clearly you have the money to do better. The JRSC is an entry level kit by any standard. You want a kit based on the MP62. Either the Moss kit or the FFS kit most likely.

Can I ask, why don't you just buy a smaller turbo and tune for lower boost and faster spool? A GT2560 running 10-12psi will have very little lag and will push the same power as a Moss or FFS kit, and with you already having all the other turbo infrastructure in place, it will be MUCH cheaper!

well i dont want to change the turbo kit because i will have to chop the exhaust manifold to suit a t3 or t2 flange (the tdo5 is a 3 bolt).

so if i do change the turbo i would need to change the manifold which isnt a problem.

im more tossing up the idea of swapping to supercharger for something different for me
(iv never had a car with a supercharger before).
i kinda like the idea of power from 1000rpm onwards. :D

the lag is only a problem on the short track !
on the road it pulls hard and fast.

it mite be worth looking into a ballbearing center for my turbo , shorter intercooler pipes etc.

Approx 320 bhp at the flywheel on 14psi? Any dyno graph?

Why not bolt on a small S/C just for more bottom end, and keep the turbo for the top end like the VW twincharger engines?

The S/C could be fitted with an electric clutch so it can freewheel at higher revs.

I've heard of people doing the turbosupercharger thing with an MX5, but i'd wager space could be a problem if you went hotside. Coldside might work with some effort and $$$.

Twin charge ?

Its not as stupid as it sounds.. with the cold side kits available it could work. it has been done before.

There's plenty of TD04 and TD05 options to play with to help increase spool.
What TD05 is on there at present?

Dropping back to a 14b (keep the 16g exhaust housing though) will bring boost on at least 500 rpm earlier. They run out of efficiency at about 15 psi though which will limit flywheel power to just under 300 hp.

R O T R E X

http://www.shop.kraftwerksusa.com/product.sc?productId=26

it fixes everything.

Have to go this route myself.

Kit REQUIRES removal of A/C Compressor

I don't think any of the other SC kits require this. Not a huge problem on a track car, but I don't think I'd survive summer without AC.

I find it very hard to believe someone with a 300whp mx5 would want to go down to a blower.

well not everything is about power.
around a small tight track i dont see boost much and if i do see boost it comes on very strong which puts me into a heap of oversteer! FUN but not fast!

to have boost from 1500rpm would work better
