FFS Cold Side Kit - Who's got / just ordered one?

Hey guys,

I've been increasingly interested in the FFS Cold-Side Kit.

The power band is exactly how I want it. It's simple. It comes with everything I need and it's quite a low-maintenance setup. (Perfect for a mechanical newbie like me).

I've been speaking with Tom lately and he's mentioned that quite a few Aussies have purchased a kit recently.

Is there anyone in NSW who's got the kit or is getting a kit that wouldn't mind sharing the love and will let me co-pilot before i decide?

Hi It's not the price of the kit that bothers me so much, it is the duty you have to pay.Has any one done their sums on a landed duty paid price.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks mate - I'll get in touch with 1 of the owners and hopefully a case of beer will give me a ride :P

GB sounds good actually - I'll check with Tom and see what he can do with pricing.

WASP mentioned the duty that we have to pay... but I assume that's on the monetary value of a 'single item' right? (Can someone explain how it works?)

If we can get 5 kits, we can easily seperate it into smaller boxes before it's shipped and the only thing that will be over $1000 will be the mp62.

I'll start an EOI thread in the meantime.

Btw. I was given an estimated cost of $1200 to have the kit installed and tested on a dyno afterwards.

Anyone know whether:

1) I need to get it engineered to have it street legal?
2) How much will that cost to setup?
3) Will that mean extra yearly costs to keep it compliant?
4) How much more do you think a supercharger will add to an average comprehensive insurance policy?

It's not hard to work out, and there are examples on the customs website

You take the value of the "goods" (in AUD) and multiply by 0.05 - that's the duty.

Then you add up the value of the goods, plus the cost of shipping, plus the duty - and multiply the total by 0.10 - that's the GST. Add the GST to the total (or multiply by 1.10 instead of 0.10) and you get the total price, landed.

The AUD$1000 limit applies to the total value of the goods, not individual items. The $1000 limit does not include shipping, so if you buy something worth $950 that costs $200 to ship you will not get charged duty or GST.

If you are going to break it up into multiple shipments to try and stay under $1000, be aware that unless you have them shipped to different locations, Customs will see multiple shipments from the same sender to the same receiver, and add the value of them together.

Also, with the fluctuating Aussie dollar, be aware that customs uses the exchange rate of the day the packages shipped, not the day you paid for it. This may have worked in my favour recently, as my items shipped 3 weeks after I paid for them, and in the meantime the dollar went up in value.

If I'd known it was going to do that I would have asked Goodwin to wait a few weeks before charging my credit card, but that's the thing with Forex and the stock market - it could have gone either way. You win some, you lose some

Not to be a downer or anything but have you thought about this seriously?

Have you sorted your suspension yet? Last I checked you were stock?

How much power do you expect to get? What is this power going to be used for? Just saying that there's a whole lot more to consider than just strapping it on and going... Sure the coldside is a great, simple kit but you're looking at 7K minimum just to get it running.

Then consider other parts that need replacing - suspension, brakes, clutch, diff... the list goes on.

I know what you mean Broady and I appreciate your concern.

Upping the power without the other parts is just asking for trouble.

I'm changing my clutch this week (it's on its last legs... literally) and I'm hoping that the EXEDY Sports will be able to handle the 130-150rkw. I'm waiting for Mania's reply but if not, I'll just pay $100 or so more to get something that can take it.

As for the brakes and suspension... I just want to see how the car handles before I decide but after a ride in Benny's car a while back, the PSS9 has been added to my wish-list forever. An easy fix might be just to get better pads - I doubt i'll need better brakes when i don't even track right?

To be fair, I'm not a speedster (as you would have figured out last time when we went on the Putty Road - I stayed towards the back) so i'm really just looking for more hp for the times when i need it. The quick of the line to overtake or the spirited drive now and then. I just want a no-fuss kit that doesn't require another 3 months of research... so the FFS kit fits the bill.

P.S. Thanks Clubman - reading the post now... getting it street legal IS my biggest concern over everything else quite frankly. Given that the kit looks so stock, I wonder whether i can get away without getting it engineered until a later date... or is it something that has to be done before and during installation?

I got a FFS Kit delivered in October 2008, and Customs charged me just over $1050, I checked the receipt yesterday and thought that it might help you to factor in a recent charge someone has paid.
