MX5 SE - weak boost in 2nd gear?

Postby yjs » Sun Apr 18, 2010 1:43 am

Hi guys, I'm a relatively new owner of a SE, also my first turbocharged car.

In 1st gear after 4.5k RPM you get the nice acceleration as the turbo kicks in, however after changing into 2nd the effect is a lot less pronounced. I'm not knowledgeable on turbochargers so I'm not really sure if there is a problem or not. It seems boost is lower in 2nd compared to 1st, not that the SE is running on a lot of boost to begin with.

Just want the opinions of other SE owners out there on. Cheers thanks.

MX5 SE - weak boost in 2nd gear?

Thanks Dave, any suggestions for boost gauges? Cheers.

Also when you are talking about the stock diverter valve problems, is that the same issue as the stock soft throttle body inlet pipe? I've been looking at upgrading the intake system with: AEM intake, FM throttle body inlet pipe, BOV and a manual boost controller.

Thank Dave, will be getting installing a boost gauge and a Turbosmart Kompact plumb back BOV next week. I'm assuming I need a 20mm outlet one after a search of the boards (http://www.modyourcar.com.au/turbosmart ... %20kompact)?

Cheers

Just drove friend's stock SE the other day and mine feels exactly the same. Nothing wrong with the car! Just my shifting is not spot on. Will be installing boost gauge and some FM parts soon though.
