Hey Guys,
Have looked through a couple of topics but im after opinions on ideas for forced induction on a 99 10ae.
I have narrowed it down to an AVO kit or the Roterex. Can anyone please help with approximate costs involved as well as the increase in power they will provide. Other options would also be helpful.
Thanks in advance

Pretty much no different to FI options for any other NB model MX5.
Where are you, what is your budget, and what are your goals?

Im in sydney,
Budget is no more than 10k however obviously no aiming on spending the whole amount.
Looking for a very quick road car. Something that will give me a similar thrill as a expensive import.

Contact David of MX5 Mania for some advise, he's turbo'd enough MX5s to get an idea on which is best bang for bucks I'm sure.
Also, Rico (MX5 NSW Club member) has a 10AE that is turbo'd (not to mention, fully blinged). I believe it does about 190+rwkw.

If you're going to turbo it and want big power, I'd recommend replacing the conrods with forged version (either Carrillo or Eagle rods). The Mazda OEM rods can only handle up to certain power. After that, the extra heat produced from the extra power can soften the OEM rods enough that they can bend under load. A lot of SPs (though not all) have experienced bent rods.

Personally, I wouldn't touch BEGi; do a search and you'll see plenty of fitting/quality issues. I've fitted ~a dozen in my time and never again.
Rather than 'AVO or Rotrex' have a look at what management systems you'll be offered. I'm with Davex3, go for the hardware and put an Adaptronic on it. The quality of the management system makes a HUGE difference to how much you'll enjoy the whole package. Just think, you'll be using boost ~10% of the time and the rest will be normal driving.
The Rotrex will build boost in a linear fashion across the range and so peak torque will be nearer the redline than on a turbo. Peak torque for the turbo is higher as it's around peak of the engine, 4-5k, where boost builds quickly. However, you'll be able to run more ponies with a linear delivery than a turbo; typically we run ~270bhp with a MP62 and ~245bhp with a GT2560R on a VVT engine.

If you,re not technically minded, definately got and see David and Simone @ Mx5 Mania, or Jason @ TT Automotive. Both have experience with turbo MX5s, and both will get you headed in the right direction with a non BS approach to the car.

Hi,
I have a 10ae that has been turbo charged since 2000. David at MX5 mania has just done som work on my car and would suggest that he is great place to start and could give you a good idea of a range of options open to you.

Woo on this forum also has a (highly developed) turbo'd 10AE - I've seen a build thread on another forum for it, but can't find it at the moment, however here's his garage which has a few pics & some info:

I have a 10AE and I am in the middle of getting it turboed.... we are going with a GT47R turbo, might be a bit laggy but once it comes on boost should be nice to drive
