Kris,
I'm sure you have told us the answer to this, but I can't remember the answer, is yours a Link ECU with the original link chip, or has it been upgraded with a Flyin Miata Chip?
If it has a FM chip and you have the Link hand controller (or a copy of Flyin Miata's laptop software) you can do most of this yourself.

If you prefer to go to a tuning shop, other than AVO, the only other tuning shop I know of with Link experience in Melb is Caulfield Jag. The club has a number of Dyno days there over the years.

im 99% sure its the old version (the kit was installed at AVO by the previous owner 2-3 years ago...)
and i have no hand controller.
yeah i thought there would be quite minimal knowledge of turbo mx5/ link in melbourne as i could not find much past AVO in searches.

Maztech @ Thornbury are very well regarded, but don't know about their Link experience, if any. Might be worth sounding them out if you haven't already.

link tuner in melbourne??
ha this is funny...
ok.... i would rather not use AVO as i have used them before and were an absolute rip off ($900 in labour to fit a clutch!!!) and maztec dont give a sh*t about you unless you are spending 100k on your rx3 coupe (i have a few personal stories about them but you cant mention that as it would probably be deformation against them which is complete double standards i.e. you can say good things about a company but not bad)
thanks so far but anything else?
cheers

ok. Hows about we plug my hand controller/laptop into the ECU and we can then confirm what chip is in there and a gander at the current maps. From that we will understand if you need someone that has Link or FM Link experience.
By the way AVO quoted me two hours on the dyno for a tune, cost was about $220. That was about 2-3 years ago.

Glen73 used them 3-4 years ago for a tune & a bit of ECU troubleshooting (I think) when he turbo'd his NA6 - he was happy with the results, but it took longer than he hoped as their guru was in demand around Australia & OS. Also might have cost him more than he hoped, but the troubleshooting was time consuming from memory. Good luck!

Kris, I am leading a MX-5 Club run this Sunday. viewtopic.php?f=64&t=39014
If you are to make it along we should be able to confirm what chip you have in the ECU and that will help pave the path forward.

Link used to have ECUs that were specific to particular car/models, such as the Miata link. They have moved to generic ECUs that will work with many car/models, including MX-5s. Their website is now geared up for the new ECUs.
Which program will work is dependant on if you are running an original Link chip, or a Flyin Miata chip. I am using Data Log Lab for my Link ECU with FM chip. http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?dep ... %20%20FULL.
Just found a post on the Link forum, seems their chips cannot be programmed by a laptop programme, just by the hand controller. http://www.linkecu.com/forum/forums/Lin ... #116978027

It is a bit steep, but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. I couldn't be more happy with the way my car runs after AVO tuned it.
