gday all
so anyway i ended up going for a turbo
its an avo kit for the 1.6
can someone tell me where the oil pick up line goes?
this kit is one i bought with a motor so i know how to set it up but the oil line runs round the front of the motor to somewhere near the back under the intake manifold ?
and does anyone know if i can put the oil return line into the sump without taking the motor out or dropping the cross member out ?
thanks
tim

If the oil intake line is running to under the intake manifold then it is probably getting it's oil supply from around the oil filter....maybe a sandwich plate?
On my NA6 the oil pickup is a point under the exhaust manifold towards the back of the engine, in fact I thought this is the regular point for the NA6 engine?
With regards to the oil return. Yes you can drill into the sump without removing the engine. I used the instructions for the Flyn' Miata install. I picked up a new fitting kit from AVO and a matching drill bit from a tool shop. Scary, but quite easy once you move the Air Cond compressor out of the way.
Here is a link to the FM instructions including oil pickup and return lines.

juffa your a champion thanks mate
the other thing i was wondering is can i clean the turbo or service it some how ?
like can i spray a can of degreaser through it or something to clean out its guts or something ?
still a bit worried abotu the oil intake
the braided line runs round from the top of turbo and is cable tied to the water hoses round the front of the thermostat under the inlet manifold and seems to go right up as far as the fire wall ?

i didn't like the way avo do the oil feed line so i modified it and used the feed plug that juffa mentioned. there is a bolt in the plug, i removed that bolt and went to an engineering shop and had them braise (weld) the hose fitting onto the end of it. then drill a hole down through the middle of the bolt. you could probably buy a suitable fitting but i couldn't find one, and the guy only charged me $10. i then went to pirtek and had them modify the hose , shortenning it a lot. the end result is a system that looks exactly the same as the picture on page 13 of the pdf juffa posted. imho it is a much neater solution than the normal avo system.

thanks again fatty and juffa all sorted
the unused port on the passengers side is much easier just shortened the oil line
and the return line as per the flyin miata instructions worked great, i just had to get the air con compressor out of the way

Does the BP have this port aswell? Is it one of those two bolts down the end of the block?

I've never come across a B6 or BP without that feed in the picture above, its a hangover form the engines originating from the turbo variants of the familia and Tx3.

forgot about these. Heres the pics ( off the mobile sorry if they are poor quality )
car goes awesome highly recommend to anyone contemplating bolting a turbo on to their MX5 it is unbeleivable how much better it goes
needs a stronger clutch under boost / higher revs it slips
the car stutters a bit when accelerating hard so might need better fuel pump ?
all up the set up cost me about $3500 icluding new 450 injectors and tune and other bits an pieces like the oil feed fittings and a new 3 inch k&n pod

How did you do the oil feed through the Sump?
And if you didnt take the engine out, who did it??

the oil return i think your talking about was easy
just got a 3/8 hose barb from pirtek
got a 3/8 drill bit and using the battery drill slowly drilled a hole through the sump ( using lots of grease and cleaning the shavings off the tip constantly so they dont fall in the bottom of the sump too much )
then tapped the hole
the got some cement glue stuff for metal and screwed in the hose barb fitting
then a piece of tube from the bottom of the turbo to the hose barb and 2 hose clamps and done
