Postby Uncle Arthur » Mon Oct 26, 2009 4:11 pm

Just wondering what all the turbo drivers are using for their engine oil?

I've been using the Castrol Edge 5W 30 but find it loses a lot of pressure when hot. What do others possibly recommend as an alternative?

I use 15w40 Premium Gold by Gulf Western here with my IHI VJ23 turbo. Suitable for forced induction, petrol/LPG/diesel & is Aussie made & owned. Castrol GTX3 15w40 is also quite good, just not Aussie made.

Not turboed just a sunday dríven Scooter.

I've been using in both mx's Valvoline 5w40 SYN power full synthetic oil.

Benefits are: runs about 3/8's on temp guage all the time , track or road. Oil pressure never drops anywhere near 2 on the proper oil guages at idle even after runs on the track and runs around 4 mark at full noise. Thats in Scooter and the Clubman.

Used Mobil 1 previously and found the oil pressure dropped signifiantly after a track cruise ( as we both know I'm a silly old fart who plods) so used the last 20lts in the family run abouts!!!!

The Valvoline is usually discounted at S/C and ripoffs too!!

Brisbane Performance shop that just did tune on my turbo mx5 recommended Castrol Edge 0W-40W. I, bought it not thinking to ask the price......$100.

Fully synthetic and twice as dear as the normal castrol edge 15-30w I used to put in my car.

Meh i use Magnatec, 10W 40 (or 50) $28 usually...

Always good pressure but after 5000Km it dips below 2 when hot.

Engine still looks good 50 000km later 8)
My tyres... (3rd set) not so much :P
Huh?

Valvoline H20 has been tested and has a rating of 5 spanners for it's ability to make a better cup of tea.

Available from your nearest garden hose for around $20 a litre if the Guv'mnt get's their own way.
Went for a drive and there were slow cars everywhere, why are NC's so common . . . must be NC = Normally Cardiganed.

Ah well. You might as well buy GTX3 at SuperCheapAuto. They have a 5.5L exclusive bottle for the same price that all other stores sell the 5L bottle.

Castrol Edge Sport 5W-30. Bought some a couple of weeks back and a few days ago a friend gave me some Royal Purple 10W-40. Not sure which I'll use but the car currently has Castrol. Seems to be the popular choice.
