Totally agree with the philosophy there mate. Just so you know

Could you explain why this is safer? I just wanted your thoughts on the matter. I think this is the whole point of having a turbo section for the forum, so we can all share our thoughts on the subject to make this a wholly informative and educational experience for the not-so-initiated :D

Actually should we just start another thread? Okibi, what do you reckon?

Thank you Okibi for making this thread. A bit of background first:

I think d-mag and I were discussing the merits of aftermarket ECUs and also the Link computer.

I made the comment that one should make sure there are plenty of auxiliary outputs available and dedicated boost, idle up and starter motor controls. This was because some packaged Link computers (that are sold with the AVO turbo kits) do not do certain important functions like read MAP sensor and control boost at the same time.

d-mag then specified his version of the Link ECU (with a website link I think) and that he was using an external boost controller as his post above, which brings us to this topic

Okay, guess it is over to d-mag now 8)

ROFL! This is hilarious Dave :D

Good summation mx52nv. 8)
Your right, the packaged units aren't too flash, the stand alones are much better.
Why I got the external boost controller? A previous car (still have it actually) had over-boost issues even though the ECU it had had a boost controller. Is it necessary with the LINK G4? Probably not, but as the internals are still stock I didn't want to risk it (paranoia, I know. I blame the pot from my teenage years :P ).

Also, the Turbosmart duel stage boost controller I got allows me to have this nifty James Bondesqe toggle switch for high/low boost.

Anti-lag = 'pop, pop, bang, bang' at the lights?

Question. I thought a boost controller (manual or electronic) only allowed you to increase boost above the level allowed by the wastegate actuator?

I installed one with my earlier model link ECU and had at least one major over boost incident before I disconnected it.

That's right Juffa...

I had a hose blow off my last one and at the time had no overboost protection (smart)...

I since changed that with the replacement engine

Well yes to the "pop, pop, bang, bang" but definitely not the the lights. Unless of course you mean the 'Christmas' tree lights at the start of Motorkhana events

Correct. The spring rating (PSI) will determine the minimum boost that the actuator will allow before opening its valve and venting the positive pressure.
