Superchargers

:D I was thinking of putting on a supercharger on my NA8.
My current preference is a Fast Forward Coldside.
I was also thinking of using the standard piggyback ECU that comes with the Fast Forward SC.
What draws me to the FF is the (1) simplicity, (2) install on the cold side I get to keep my Lock Stewart CAI and my CSC extractors (3) cool the air charge by using the 5th injector instead of an intercooler. (4) the whine, (5) the torque throughout the rev range, (6) around 190 rwhp.

I would like to hear from anyone that has some success with the FFCS or Rotrex mod on an NA8. :mrgreen:

If I won lotto I'd be placing an order for a SC; not decided on which type, but I've done the turbo thing, time to go down the belt whine road... :mrgreen:

SC's are cool, but I would be hesitant to think that a 5th injector would be a "cooling" medium for compressed air :shock:
More a recipe for pre-ignition IMO (fuel hitting hot air = combustinon in intake tract)
How much was the Rotrex unit in a kit form?
If the $$ are comparable to the FFS, there are more options with the Rotrex as you could adapt a FMIC to cool the charge air, rather than building coldside adapters (like a water/air sandwich plate similar to V8 SCs)

The rotrex solution is very good but it is expensive (i have one and as you are in brisbane you can drop around any time to check it out - I may even let you drive it). It is very nice to drive and you can get some serious hp with the correct version. The cold side kit is fine but you will not be happy with 190whp - trust me. If you want the best most cost effective solution that has capacity for big hp without compromising on drivability I would investigate the mp62 based hotside kits. You can have a proper intercooler and there is much more support for it out there then the coldside kit. That and the coldside kit was designed for the lhd cars in the states and I think its not quite as simple to install - don't quote me but I just remember reading something.

Although I believe that the rotrex is the best out there as its the lightest and smallest while can deliver the most hp it is the most expensive. If you have a big budget buy one - its worth it. If not get the hotside kit. It gives you more flexibility.

Besides the fact I actually have one for sale :wink: I think I would have been very happy with 190rwhp, you don't need big hp to go fast. I have had both a 225rwhp turbo and a 160rwhp S/C and I think the S/C wins hands down. The S/C car was plenty quick around the island too managing a 1.57 in the hands of a novice (me :mrgreen: ) , probably best thing for you would be to bum a ride in a mx5 and see what you think of the power, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

Pat is also going. He is taking the original Boags prior to putting in the new donk. Should be a good day for $50.

Designed to suit an internally standard engine, the Intercooled Bullet MX5 kit reliably increases power from the factory 98kws up to approxiamately 150 kws! This is a gain of over 50% and is acheived with only 8psi of boost pressure. Addtional power increases to over 170kws can be made with the fitment of Cold air induction, High flow Extractors and exhaust and a slight increase in boost pressure to 10psi. The power delivery from the Rotrex Supercharger is extremely smooth and feels like a factory installation. that was on about 6psi of boost. I got it retuned on the same boost for 137. I then got it tuned on about 10psi and have quite a bit more.
