I think it is all about what you want to use the car for, how the power is delivered and cost. The cossie kit is a pure bolt on for more power with little hassle and a relatively small cost. I would never expect to gain more than 50% extra power from the kit, so if you need more power or like the big numbers, a turbo or an engine swap is the safe bet.
I weighed up the options and decided that I'd prefer a power gain without hassle and chose the Cosworth kit too. I've had the car after the install for 2 days now and my face hurts cause of the constant smile. It only has the generic tune at the moment and when cruising, you can't even tell that it is there.
I've got the full goodwin exhaust and a 3.2" pulley (over the stock 3.4") and when I've fixed the bugs and done some tuning (motoeast/sniper), I'll put it on the dyno and see what it gets. Hopefully it is all done before the next wakefield track day. :)

If you don't like being beaten in a straight line by other cars, why buy an MX5 in the first place? :)

My argument wasnt that the hayabusa engine is a good ce for an NC simply that there are other platforms with the same engine making HEAPS of power. Any shop can build you a manifold/exhaust/cooler combo that will support a 350+rwhp capable 2871, and have no lag at all.
Im not familiar with ecu tuning on NCs but it appears to have been overcome.

The instant throttle response is to die for, i have not enjoyed a car this much ever before. I think i found my perfect car.

Dan, I think you've missed the point of this kit.
Anyone with basic skills can take delivery of the two boxes and about 12 hours later drive the car from their garage with a very close to perfect tune.
Oh you'd need a hand to get the bonnet off and back on again. :D

This is a long way from buying a set of manifolds and beginning the install from scratch.

Im impressed that its so simple. I had no idea. Also at 4500 dollars. wow. I take back my comments about suitability.
However someone should still build a turbo beast already, the cars arent exactly new now.

This setup is mint, albeit no A/C... custome c30 Rotrex setup.. A few Caterhams running round with similar setups too...

Jeremy @ FM just got back to on the idling issue.

"Hey Dean,

See if your idle might be a bit lean. We've seen that in a couple cars & are working on a solution to fix it up in the coding. It doesn't create a "problem", just needs to be richened up a bit. If we get a fix we can orchestrate the flash update through Deckspeed in Sydney to save shipping.

One more thing, double check that you don't have a vacuum leak around the manifold or EGR connection. That'd cause a lean stumble. "

Will keep you guys posted.

No not new but you've missed one vital point about turbo RHD NC's. The steering column.

In a RHD car you would need to re enginner the location and direction of the steering shaft. LHD NC's don't have this problem. That's why the supercharger is the answer for RHD NC's.
Even fitting the headers into my NC meant disconnecting the steering shaft to get enough clearance to feed in the header.

Didn't know that ^ lucky i didn't go turbo. Personally i think superchargers are much more suited to MX5's.

Yeah, so its not as easy as an NA.
Plenty of more difficult cars have been turbocharged before.
If someone wants real power they should pull their finger out and throw on a 2871 already.
Hell, Ill build the manifold/dump etc if someone wants.
Be glad to do the first one.

^ A forward (sidewinder) manifold has already been made in the USofA, mounted to a Borg Warner EFR turbo i think pushing over 400hp, turbo mounted where the battery is.

I've been discussing this topic for quite some time now over on miata.net, where a guys trying to develop a twin scroll manifold without much luck - even worse for us with RHD NC's.

After searching the net last night for other options, I think this is the best: similar to a GT+ kit but uses a Rotrex charger, and love where it's mounted, and I believe can run smaller pullys to up boost and not over spin waterpumps etc... (It's a Chinese shop I think - i'd love to get in contact with them to see the bracket and pully system)

found the problem!!

the PCV valve (cam cover end) is cracked. pretty sure it's called the PCV valve, it's the hose that go's from the cam cover to the intake tube between the throttle body and the MAF. problem was staring at me the whole time.

Well done finding the problem (and solution). I've got no idea about these car hoses etc you mention but i can relate as i'm always amazed how some things can be staring you in the face yet they aren't seen for what they are.

I'm getting really excited about these new aussie scnc's coming online, i'd really like the extra power myself, probably just as jealous as GMI and many other na nc readers!

Keep us up to date dean with your FI travels.
cheers

Yeah, pays to check the simple things first. The problem was literally on top of the engine cover lol.

Cheers
