That would be good at a future event.
BARMY was indeed catching Russell on both straights. Of course, Russell would then pull away again on the twisty bits. The extra power adds up to a potential extra 20-30kmph on the straights by the time we reach the previous braking points. Of course, as I discovered on lap 2 , trying to slow down from the higher speeds at the same braking point with the same brakes doesn't work as the existing pads just overheat and cease to stop the car. The pads I'd ordered from Brakes Direct/QFM should have been here in time, but weren't, but that's another BARMY supplier story .
So I had to start braking further back where the car is only about 15kms faster. The present pad material still overheats at different rates either side of the car, making it dart from side to side at 205kmph, which is quite exciting. At least at turn one the darting was mainly to the left, which is good, since it's a left turn. With hindsight the solution would have been to start braking even earlier so the car wasn't getting upset going into the corner so could be dríven quicker around the corner but I confess to not being a professional racing driver, who would have thought of that at the time.
So, hopefully 1440+ pads instead of 1000+ by the next event. Maybe also some aero assistance for the undersized brake ducting.
Everything else worked perfectly, which is a first for BARMY. No misfires, no smoke, no fluid losses, no overheating, normal idle coming in after a session. Lug nuts needed regular tightening (this was the first time I've had a proper torque wrench to check them. I wonder how often I've run with loose nuts in the past ). Power steering belt fell off, which introduced me to the whole of the apron at Dandenong Road. My fault as it was a new belt and I didn't re-tension it after the drive down from Newcastle. Lesson learned, spares now in the toolbox and I know how to change one now and what tools I need. Thanks to everyone who loaned tools and expertise.
