After having the standard clutch for 50,000 k's, when I had my engine re-built, I wanted to change the clutch as well, and I was also in a quandry as to which one to buy.
As Mrs Benny also drives it occasionally, I didn't want to go to a savage clutch set-up, so I settled for the OEM Mazda SE clutch.

My car normally runs at 14lbs of boost and has had the head etc done as well, and the SE clutch is holding up fine after 15,000 k's and it doesn't shudder at all.

As my car often breaks into wheelspin at around 4,000RPM in first gear, and second too if the road isn't grippy, I think it 's doing a very good job, and the pedal is light and easy to modulate.

As I mentioned before, I have tried every type of Exedy clutch available and it just so happens that the HDCB is the one in MX52NV now. I fitted it in early 2008 and it is barely gripping now.

It might be fine for a normally aspirated MX5 and normal driving.

However, take it from someone who has spent all the money, labour & time to try all the Exedy products for the MX5 and have found them all to have fallen short in high horsepower MX5 applications. Granted I have decent horsepower (235rwhp street tune) but I am also very gentle with the car and I always look after my drivetrain when driving.

Ask BOYRCR (340+rwhp) if he has any problems with his OS Giken twin plate since I supplied it to him almost a year ago. Think he has broken 2 or 3 gearboxes though ...

Bloody good clutch!! Very happy with it and it is very easy to drive. Took a little to get used to due to extreme grip. It has never fealt like sliping and has had a little bit of hard driving I use to have a custom clutch with a 1800 fly wheel (larger contact area) that lasted 40,000km's.

Plus you can stand there with your chest out and say "I run a twin plate....." much street cred in twin plate

according to them some can handle 300ft/lbs of torque

I've always run the exedy 3 puck ceramic in my other cars...great product....will be putting one in the mx5 soon......

No personal experience with ACT but thought I should mention that the OS Giken is rated for 9,800 Nm or over 7,200 ft/lbs.
Again, probably more for big power turbo or supercharged MX5s. Sorry phatR if I hijacked your post, I will go back into my cave again..

I hate 3 or 4 puck clutches with their on/off feel in a daily driver. I am sure everyone has their own tastes but I personally would not be putting something with such few pucks on a car that spends time in traffic.

But then again, I may be becoming soft in my age or from post-traumatic stress or both...
