Post intercooler air temps

Postby Roadrunner » Fri May 23, 2014 2:43 pm

So just for my own curiosity, what would the normal air temps be after the intercooler compared to the temp at the filter?
Just got an update on Dashcommand on my phone and now it reads specific pids for the SE, two being AIT1 and AIT2
I loaded it up and went for a short drive and AIT2 was showing roughly 10-15degs hotter than AIT1
This was only a 5 minute spint down the road but does that sound right? (remembering I still have the stogey little factory IC)
On average AIT was 28degs and AIT was 40ish
Started out around 30degs then booted it onto the motorway and AIT2 rocketed

Hopefully this is accurate, as ill be able to see on average how much cooler a better intercooler works when I get around to upgrading the factory one.

I'm seeing a delta T of ~ 10 degC as well after some relatively spirited driving.
I'm still on the standard intercooler as well and monitoring via WARI (Adaptronic).

Probably not unreasonble. I did some testing years ago and came up with post-IC temps of around 15 degrees above ambient while flogging around a track. That wasn't in an MX-5 (actually SR20 in a Datto 1600) but the theory is the same. I also did some pre-IC tests on the dyno and it wasn't unusual to see over 100 degrees (in the pipe between turbo and IC). So the IC is doing some work!

Cool, must admit when I saw it continue to rise up and above 40degrees I was taken by surprise, I didn't expect temps would get that high over ambient
(Honestly, I thought it would go cooler  )
