I'm considering adding a turbo blanket to my EFR6258 to contain the heat (it's very tight down there and the A/C line runs very close which I've clad with additional heat reflecting tape) and am interested in people's thoughts/experiences with them.
Are they really that beneficial and useful and how long do they last? - they're typically around A$200+.
DEI has one specifically for the EFR6258 (see http://www.full-race.com/store/efr-turbo-accessories/efr-turbo-blankets-1.html) but I've seen reviews on this where it hasn't lasted very long (this was on a car that saw a lot of track time so may not really be an issue for me given that I'd probably only do 5-6 track days a year).
Garrett make several variations of these so does anyone have any experience with them and what are their thoughts on these?
FYI: My EFR6258's exhaust housing has a ceramic coating - I'm considering the blanket for additional heat retention.

If it is purely to protect your aircon lines then just move them. That's what Simon did on his SE when we built his back in 2005. Find out who your Mazda dealer uses for aircon work and get them to do it with the instructions to make it look factory.

If you're getting new lines consider getting insulation on them, I think a few SP owners did this.

They trap the heat in quite effectively....

They're not a great solution on a street car - it'd also likely 'show' on your setup and give away the mods - the stealth is the best part of your set-up.
Assuming you're 100% happy with everything other than the AC, I'd go as suggested and get some re-routed AC lines - even with an evac and re-gas it'll be cheaper in the long run than a turbo blanket or two.

Dann. you know how good I am at asking dumb questions so please bear with me. What does a turbo blanket achieve? Does it not make the turbo run even hotter and thus put hotter air in the motor?

Heat soak make everything under the hood reach +80 deg C as it is bathed in the air from the radiator. Ceramic coating the headers will reduce the radiant heat from the headers. I’ve used ACL heatshield material (link below) around my supercharger to reduce radiant heat but without any measurements, it could just be a waste of time and money.

Its the exhaust housing that is insulated by the blanket, totally separate from the intake side. This is to keep under hood temps down (as if that matters at all). IE generally It isnt necessary at all.
