Well.. with a $6k budget, you're going to struggle to get a really smooth aftermarket turbo car that drives as smooth as silk... simply because it takes time to tune and test and tune and test (so I've heard!).

All the turbo cars that have the 'linear power delivery' that you're looking for have had a fair amount of work and tuning done to it. Having said that, it does prove that it is possible to have the response that you're describing.

BadBong I disagree.

What I want to know from OP, is what is he disliking, was it that power comes on a 4000rpm (boost threshold) or that above 4000rpm, when you open the throttle boost took a second to wind up (lag). Those are 2 different things altogether. A gt2554r on a log manifold with a 3'' dump/exhaust and a small intercooler will make appreciable boost by 2000rpm and full boost well before 3000rpm and power to 7000, it will also spool as fast as your ankle can move, so has no lag.

Cruise is above 2000rpm, so anywhere above cruise RPM the car has instant torque with no slingshot turbo feeling.

Sorry - I meant that it'll be hard to get a turbo setup 'legally' - i.e. with enigeering
