As for the clutch yeah most would have to go to a mechanic simply due to not having a hoist or ability to get the car up high enough to make the job easy. What kind of price would you expect an exhaust shop to charge for IC piping? Ebay kits still seem the cheapest way though unless you can weld/the steel is thick enough your whole system ends up silicon hosed together, not ideal but workable. As for intakes I have seen intake pipe + filter for similar to what you quote but the air box itself will have to be custom made and if there is already one on the market for the MX-5 it would probably cost a lot more than making it yourself. Everyone can do a cardboard mock up but many would need tools to cut and bend alluminium sheet (imo one of the better materials to use). I wonder if there are any readily available thermoset plastics that could do the job, very easy to cut and when you need to bend it just heat it up then fold into shape. As for the bov, they are not just for show but do have an impact on response during gear changes, for a low boost set up like on an MX-5 I can agree that it is not necessary but you would definitely notice not having one on a higher powered set up and may on the mx5 too, some will argue about stress on the turbo but there hasn't been any real proof regarding that. I am guessing megalog is megasquirts data logging program? Do you really want to have a laptop open and running every time you take the car for a drive? It is much easier just to have a physical boost guage to keep an eye on things.
Do they not have a knock sensor? I hadn't heard of det cans before but after a quick look around I now know. Are decent knock sensors really that bad or is it just the honda boys (seem to be one of the main users) that don't have knock sensors on the older engines. It seems modern knock sensors are pretty good and I have never seen or heard of any of the big name tuners around tuning their cars with det cans, only the knock sensor/s. Don't get me wrong it makes sense but is it necessary compared to having a good knock sensor, perhaps it depends on the aftermarket ECU as cheaper ones may not have a decent knock sensor program where as better ones may do this much better? If the human ear can hear it then a microphone certianly can it would more just be optimising the program to identify knock from random noise which could be difficult.

You can buy pod enclosures for very cheap that look exactly like a cowl intake. With a pipe on it aimed out the bumper this is both effective and legal, and versatile.
All good tuners use det cans. A knock sensor is unable to make a perfect assumption and b series engines are SUPER noisy at the 4k mark, all knock sensors go crazy at this rpm regardless of filter settings. A bov is good but not needed and besides a plastic bosch one as used on saabs and porsches is like 20 bucks at a wreckers and come ready to plumb back. A press bent mild steel ic pipe setup is only a couple hundred at a exhaust shop, but if you want a good price you need to drop it off and tell them to call you when its done in a week if they want.
You dont need a boost guage, megalog viewer is used when tuning to setup the wastegate, then a boost reading isnt needed. There is no reason a boost spike will occur just once, youll find it when tuning. And in the time it takes for a spike to occur you cant see that, at full boost your eyes are on the road. Look, i know they are popular but they just dont help ever, unless used for setting boost with a mbc quickly, which isnt a design necessity for a turbo setup.

I already mentioned, IVE CANCELLED MY PLANS i was just seeing how much it would cost because mx5s are srsly under powered. Ive already stated that i have decided to wait till i can get a rotary put in!
