WHICH ECU TO BUY?

Postby roadster90 » Thu Nov 12, 2009 10:40 pm

Hi everyone,
just after some advice on what ECU to buy.
I have looked at a few but the easiest one for me looks like the Wolf V500 with harness as there's not to much mucking around.
I have a 1989 Eunos Roadster & have recently installed a Jackson Racing supercharger. But would like to fine tune it & do away with the AFM.

Any suggestions about going down the Wolf V500 path with harness, or should I be looking at a mega squirt, etc :D ?

I am after ease without rewiring looms etc.

Any adive would be great or direction to a link with this same topic

Thanks Paul.

Find the tuner you want first and see what they recommend. Picking an ECU then trying to find someone in your area who knows how to tune them is just asking for trouble.

Is there enough MAPS out there now for ECU's on the same set-up that you could use rather than using a tuner?

Then just get a Dyno done?

New to this ECU stuff so if these statements are out there I apologise.

Do some homework - use the search function, there is plenty of info (and arguement) on here.

Then, when you have specific questions, we can be more helpful than simply saying 'Brand X', and you will be better placed to evaluate the answers.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Do you have air con? The MegaSquirt works great but the idle code leaves a lot to be desired. If the car doesn't have aircon I would recommend the MSPNP.

Have a look at these forums and web site, I’m very happy with my Adaptronic ecu. You can save on the PNP harness be using the sockets from your old ecu.

Why didn't I buy one years ago?

Yes, my car has aircon.
On the Megasquirt site, it's says there is a function specifically for aircon. so what is the problem with the Megasquirt?

I have a greddy emanage ultimate which is a piggy back that runs fuel & ignition, has great features for a lot less money then some of the others, if i was to go stand alone i would seriously look at the MS, the support on both the EM & MS on the U.S turbo forums is great.

Fisrtly you need to think about & tell us what you want the ecu to do for you, piggyback/standalone & any other details about how you intend to use the car would help us guide you get what you need....

dont go out & buy the first thing people reccomend, research it & get people to speak from personal experience.

I went with the EMU because there is a lot of support for it on the U.S forums, ir had a plug & play loom, did more then i needed & is a piggy back, NB's cannot run a stand alone without mods & i didnt want to do those mods at the time of choosing an ecu.
want to join the mazda car club of australia?, for more info please p.m me

Best advice you'll get.

Most ECUs are fairly capable on a basic setup, the tuner is the more important part of the equation.
When results speak for themselves - don't interrupt.

It will activate the aircon just fine, it's just that I've found "MegaSquirt 1 + supercharger + aircon == hair pulling" unless you're prepared to run with a 1400rpm idle all the time. :|

Hi guys.
Thanks for the advice.
I've had a look a an Adaptronic made in Oz & spoke to one of the guys there.
It seems really good and he suggested I only would need theAdaptronic e420c for about $990 & there plug in loom for about $300.
A few extras will be required though like a new TPS thats variable, apparrently a TPS from a E30 is a perfect fit.
Innovate Motorsports LC-1 also and a air temperature sensor.
Might be a good option with local support aswell.

Any thoughts guys? :D

It's excellent - see: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=37978
But is it what your tuner recommends & are they comfortable tuning it?
